Jeff Gartland, Relatient
Relatient focuses on intelligent scheduling, specifically for the larger specialty groups. They touch over 50m patients and 45,000 providers a year, and are now a significant player in the key part of patient experience–converting a patient looking into an actual appointment with the provider. A Look at the Hospital Room of the Future at Tampa General Hospital
When healthcare staff approach a hospital room, it’s important to know basic things about the patient like their preferred language, whether they’re in isolation, or whether they’re not supposed to eat (an NPO order). Traditionally, these facts are handled through physical markers or even buried in the patient record. The “digital white board” and “digital door sign” technologies from eVideon display the necessary information automatically where it’s clearly visible and provide a look into what the hospital room of the future looks like powered by technology. Amy Bender, Info...

Dealing with the Elephant in the Waiting Room – Clipboards and Paper Forms
I recently had a visit to the doctor’s office for a routine procedure.  I kid you not that I was asked to complete essentially the same forms 3 different times.  Two times electronically and once on paper.  The staff assured me that the forms were asking different questions.  I frustratingly assured them that 95% of the questions were the same.  It was an awful experience for me as a patient and no doubt for them to have to review 3 different sets of forms.  While not every office is this disorganized, the patient experience when it comes to clipboards and patient forms has a lot to be desired at many healthcar...

Tim O ’ Connell, CEO, emtelligent
Tim O’Connell discusses emtelligent’s capability to take unstructured clinical data and using NLP, match it to clinical ontologies and figure out what disease patients have, and enable payers and providers to do something about it–rather than payment coding which is what NLP has usually been used for. I spoke to him at HIMSS in March where he was launching emtelligent own new large language model (LLM). Anyone with a health data set is a potential client, but Tim thinks we can use all this data and his company’s technology to radically improve our understanding of clinical care, and improve it–...

Connecting Healthcare Clouds and Simplifying Solutions in a Secure Way
Healthcare cloud solutions have become much more sophisticated, reliable, and easier to connect. Gone are the days of a single cloud instance that can support all your needs.  However, managing the various cloud options can be challenging if you don’t have a thoughtful approach to it and work with great partners. At the HIMSS 2024 conference, we moderated a panel hosted by Rackspace Technology and Dell Technologies with healthcare multicloud experts and former CIOs who shared the benefits and challenges of implementing and integrating multicloud solutions in healthcare. Plus, they discussed how these models can evol...

Advancing Healthcare with High Performance Computing (HPC) and Cybersecurity
Healthcare has become a data-driven industry as the volume of data continues to grow and organizations are able to use that data to provide more personalized care. However, data alone won’t advance healthcare. New systems and processing power that can turn data into insights is the key to accelerating discoveries and improving care. At the HIMSS 2024 conference, we brought together an incredible panel hosted by AMD and Dell Technologies to discuss the ways high performance computing (HPC) is key to helping healthcare organizations solve the big challenges healthcare faces. Plus, we looked at how security has to be ba...

Unlocking Healthcare ’ s Mobile Future: HIPAA-Compliant BYOD
When I’ve talked to CIOs about what’s keeping them up at night, they almost universally answer: security.  No doubt it’s the biggest risk to a healthcare organization and the attackers only need a slight opening in your security defenses to wreak havoc. That’s why we were particularly interested in this session at HIMSS 2024 that looked at how to create a HIPAA-Compliant BYOD program which balanced the security needs of a healthcare organization while still meeting the workflow needs of their users.  Michael Karnezis, Director of Commercial Sales, and Vernon O’Donnell, President, Field Opera...
