Prophylactic Cholecystectomy is Safe in Patients Undergoing Cytoreductive Surgery With Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy
CONCLUSION: Prophylactic cholecystectomy in patients undergoing CRS-HIPEC is not associated with increased morbidity or increased bile leak risk compared to historical data. While the benefits of prophylactic cholecystectomy are not yet elucidated, it may be considered to avoid potential future morbid operations for biliary disease.PMID:38587264 | DOI:10.1177/00031348241246171 (Source: The American Surgeon)

Metabolic fingerprinting by nuclear magnetic resonance of hepatocellular carcinoma cells during p53 reactivation-induced senescence
NMR Biomed. 2024 Apr 8:e5157. doi: 10.1002/nbm.5157. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCellular senescence is characterized by stable cell cycle arrest. Senescent cells exhibit a senescence-associated secretory phenotype that can promote tumor progression. The aim of our study was to identify specific nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy-based markers of cancer cell senescence. For metabolic studies, we employed murine liver carcinoma Harvey Rat Sarcoma Virus (H-Ras) cells, in which reactivation of p53 expression induces senescence. Senescent and nonsenescent cell extracts were subjected to high-resolution proton (1H)...

Inhibition of GLUD1 mediated by LASP1 and SYVN1 contributes to hepatitis B virus X protein-induced hepatocarcinogenesis
J Mol Cell Biol. 2024 Apr 8:mjae014. doi: 10.1093/jmcb/mjae014. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGlutamate dehydrogenase 1 (GLUD1) is implicated in oncogenesis. However, little is known about the relationship between GLUD1 and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In the present study, we demonstrated that the expression levels of GLUD1 significantly decreased in tumors, which was relevant to the poor prognosis of HCC. Functionally, GLUD1 silencing enhanced the growth and migration of HCC cells. Mechanistically, the upregulation of interleukin-32 through AKT activation contributes to GLUD1 silencing-facilitated hepatocarcinogenesis...

20(S)-Ginsenoside Rh2 inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma by suppressing angiogenesis and the GPC3-mediated Wnt/ β‑catenin signaling pathway
Acta Biochim Biophys Sin (Shanghai). 2024 Apr 7. doi: 10.3724/abbs.2024038. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACT20(S)-Ginsenoside Rh2 has significant anti-tumor effects in various types of cancers, including human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, its molecular targets and mechanisms of action remain largely unknown. Here, we aim to elucidate the potential mechanisms by which Rh2 suppresses HCC growth. We first demonstrate the role of Rh2 in inhibiting angiogenesis. We observe that Rh2 effectively suppresses cell proliferation and induces apoptosis in HUVECs. Furthermore, Rh2 significantly inhibits HepG2-stimulated HUVEC ...

Hepatocellular carcinoma biomarkers screening based on hydrogel photonic barcodes with tyramine deposition amplified ELISA
Biosens Bioelectron. 2024 Apr 4;255:116270. doi: 10.1016/j.bios.2024.116270. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), as one of the most lethal cancers, significantly impacts human health. Attempts in this area tends to develop novel technologies with sensitive and multiplexed detection properties for early diagnosis. Here, we present novel hydrogel photonic crystal (PhC) barcodes with tyramine deposition amplified enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for highly sensitive and multiplexed HCC biomarker screening. Because of the abundant amino groups of acrylic acid (AA) component, the constructed h...
