Holocaust Memorial Day – Today we remember those “ torn from home ”
Holocaust Memorial Day is a time for everyone to come together and say never again. Never again to an anti-semitic and racist ideology that systematically targeted and murdered six million Jews. Never again should anyone be forced to suffer and die like those murdered by Nazi Persecution or in subsequent genocides. Never again. Amongst those targeted and killed were Jews, Roma Gypsies and Slavs. They were Black, LGBT and disabled. They were trade unionists and political opponents of Nazism. All of them torn from home, never to return. Leaving behind families, friends, communities, jobs and lives. “Torn from home” is th...

Do you have too much stuff? Is your house a loosely-joined collection of garbage piles among which you tread, as dazed and rudderless as a possum in a landfill? Scientists Say This Popular Bathroom Accessory Really Does Help You Poop Better
Using a bathroom stool could help your stool, according to a new study published in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology. Products like the Squatty Potty (which are known scientifically as “defecation postural modification devices,” or DPMDs) have in recent years gained a cult following for purportedly helping people relieve themselves in the most natural position: squatting. People can mimic a squat by simply placing their feet on a stool while using the toilet, raising their knees above their hips. Given their commercial success, curious scientists set out to see if DPMDs are actually good for you. “...

Bowel movement: the push to change the way you poo
Are you sitting comfortably? Many people are not – and they insist that the way we’ve been going to the toilet is all wrong. Scientists unravel secret of cube-shaped wombat faeces
Researchers investigate why excrement emerges in awkward-shaped blocksOf all the many mysteries that surround the common wombat, it is hard to find one as baffling as its ability – broadly acknowledged as unique in the natural world – to produce faeces shaped like cubes. Why the pudgy marsupials might benefit from six-faced faeces is generally agreed upon: wombats mark their territorial borders with fragrant piles of poo and the larger the piles the better. With die-shaped dung, wombats boost the odds that their droppings, deposited near burrow entrances, prominent rocks, raised ground and logs, will not roll away. That...
