New money  for NHS pay from Treasury could end dispute, says UNISON
The chancellor can halt escalating strike action and begin solving the staffing emergency currently causing the NHS such harm if he comes up with new money to pay health workers fairly, says UNISON today (Monday).   But if Jeremy Hunt continues to resist appeals to release extra cash and kickstart talks with unions to end the strikes, the NHS dispute could run for many months, says the union.     This warning comes as up to 15,000 UNISON ambulance workers walk out later today for the third time in five weeks over pay and staffing, says UNISON. Smart stethoscope uses artificial intelligence to screen for heart failure
In this study, researchers used a familiar stethoscope (to listen to heart sounds) with additional sensors to record an ECG (an electrocardiogram, a measure of the heart ' s electrical activity). Few were missed by the stethoscope, and few were incorrectly identified as having heart failure when they did not. The researchers say the tool could be used to diagnose heart failure earlier, in primary care. It could help GPs prioritise referrals to...

Tuning in to Your Most-Ignored Sense Can Make You Happier
Somewhere along the long, winding road of evolution, a bunch of genes got together in a conference room and decided it would probably be most optimal for human survival if we were forced to take in every sound all around us at all times.
