Interrupting Effect of Social Distancing on Ischemic Heart Disease, Asthma, Stroke, and Suicide Attempt Patients by PM < sub > 2.5 < /sub > Exposure
CONCLUSION: While the interrupting effect of SD was not as pronounced as anticipated, this study did validate the effectiveness of SD in modifying health behaviors and minimizing avoidable visits to EDs in addition to curtailing the occurrence of infectious diseases.PMID:38653569 | DOI:10.3349/ymj.2023.0135 (Source: Yonsei Medical Journal)

E-selectin is associated with stable angina and myocardial infarction in a sample of Kurdish population
This study was conducted on 200 participants who were admitted to the surgical specialty hospital-cardiac center in Erbil City, Iraq between October 2021 and May 2022. Based on the outcomes of the clinical examination, laboratory tests, coronary angiography (COA), acute myocardial infarction (MI) type ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), stable angina pectoris (SAP), and healthy control groups were tested. Each sample was subjected to Sanger sequencing. The polymorphism was significantly linked to stable angina and myocardial infarction Genotype CC was higher in SAP when compared with MI and control groups which was...

ATF3/EGR1 regulates myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury induced autophagy and inflammation in cardiomyocytes
Cell Mol Biol (Noisy-le-grand). 2024 Mar 31;70(3):125-129. doi: 10.14715/cmb/2024.70.3.18.ABSTRACTMyocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (MIRI) is an irreversible adverse event during the management of coronary heart disease that lacks effective controls. The underlying mechanism of MIRI still requires further investigation. Recent studies have suggested that overexpression of ATF3 protects against MIRI by regulating inflammatory responses, ferroptosis, and autophagy. The downstream target of ATF3, EGR1, also showed cardioprotective properties against MIRI by promoting autophagy. Therefore, further investigating the effect...

Early and Long-Term Results of Simultaneous and Staged Revascularization of Coronary and Carotid Arteries
CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed no significant difference in the impact of simultaneous CABG + CEA or staged CABG/CEA on the incidence of death, stroke, MI, and MACEs over a 30-day and long-term follow-up period. Although the immediate results indicated an increased risk of a complicated course (attributable to overall complications) and more prolonged ventilation after simultaneous CABG + CEA compared with staged CABG/CEA, this did not lead to an increase in fatal complications. Therefore, the implementation of either tactic is considered eligible and appropriate following a thorough operative risk assessment.PMID:386514...

Fetal transposition of the great arteries: 3D virtual and physical models from ultrasound datasets
AbstractTransposition of the great arteries (TGA) is a cyanotic congenital heart disease characterized by ventriculoarterial discordance and atrioventricular concordance with the great arteries in a parallel relationship. Prenatal diagnosis of TGA has implications for postnatal outcomes, allowing for planned delivery and perinatal management. Three-dimensional virtual or physical models of fetal TGA allow better understanding of fetal cardiac anomalies by parents and interactive discussion among the multidisciplinary team (obstetricians, pediatricians, maternal-fetal specialists, pediatric cardiologists, and cardiovascular...

Intracoronary physiology: Easier to measure, but still complex. The art of interpreting intracoronary pressure wire data.
Since the introduction of fractional flow reserve (FFR) [1], coronary physiology has progressively gained prominence in coronary diagnosis and intervention. Its implementation has led to improved outcomes, safely avoiding unnecessary revascularisations without increasing or even decreasing the number of adverse events. Recently, FFR has facilitated a new approach to understanding ischemic heart disease, explaining its symptoms and consequences beyond coronary stenoses [2]. Grouped mixtures of air pollutants and seasonal temperature anomalies and cardiovascular hospitalizations among U.S. Residents
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings identified critical pollutants for targeted emission controls and suggested that abnormal temperature changes chronically affected cardiovascular health by interacting with air pollution, not directly.PMID:38648692 | DOI:10.1016/j.envint.2024.108651 (Source: Environment International)

The association of pre-cancer diagnosis cardiovascular risk factors with memory aging after a cancer diagnosis, overall and by race/ethnicity
ConclusionsCVRFs were associated with worse baseline memory function, but not decline, for cancer-free adults and cancer survivors. Racial disparities were largely similar between cancer survivors and cancer-free adults.Implications for Cancer SurvivorsThese findings may inform hypotheses about pre-diagnosis multimorbidity and cognitive aging of cancer survivors from diverse groups. Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 518: 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome: Influence of Parental Origin on Clinical Heterogeneity
This study aimed to explore the association between clinical heterogeneity in 22q11.2DS and the parental origin of the deletion. The parental origin of the deletion was determined for 61 individuals with 22q11.2DS by genotyping DNA microsatellite markers and single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Among the 61 individuals, 29 (47.5%) had a maternal origin of the deletion, and 32 (52.5%) a paternal origin. Comparison of the frequency of the main clinical features between individuals with deletions of maternal or paternal origin showed no statistically significant difference. However, Truncus arteriosus, pulmonary atresia, s...

Valuing the health benefits of nature-based recreational physical activity in England
Environ Int. 2024 Apr 16;187:108667. doi: 10.1016/j.envint.2024.108667. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPhysical activity (PA) reduces the risk of several non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Natural environments support recreational PA. Using data including a representative cross-sectional survey of the English population, we estimated the annual value of nature-based PA conducted in England in 2019 in terms of avoided healthcare and societal costs of disease. Population-representative data from the Monitor of Engagement with the Natural Environment (MENE) survey (n = 47,580; representing 44,386,756) were used to estimate the ...

Prognostic value of growth differentiation factor ‐15 in heart failure among whole ejection fraction phenotypes
ConclusionsGDF-15 is identified as an independent risk factor for adverse outcomes in HF patients across the entire EF spectrum in the context of CHD. Integrating GDF-15 into the MAGGIC risk score-based model enhances its prognostic capability for adverse outcomes in the general HF population. This incremental prognostic effect was observed specifically in the HFpEF subgroup and not in other subgroups. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)
