Why is sharing knowledge about hand hygiene and infection prevention and control still so important?
The global health care workforce is estimated to exceed 65 million. [1] Broken down by cadre, this “stock” comprises 29.1 million nurses, 12.7 million medical doctors, 3.7 million pharmacists, 2.5 million dentists, 2.2 million midwives and 14.9 million in additional occupations, including cleaners and healthcare waste workers. These numbers have not accounted for external contractors. Each of these numbers represents a person requiring training and education in infection prevention and control (IPC), to support the overall safety and quality of health care delivery. BBIBP-CorV vaccine effectiveness against COVID-19 in patients aged 60  years and older during the Delta-dominant period in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a test-negative case-control study
In this study, we estimated the vaccine effectiveness (VE) of complete primary series BBIBP-CorV vaccine against COVID-19 in patients aged 60 years and older, during the Delta-dominant period, using a test-negative case-control design. Surveillance sites were 11 primary health care centers (PHC) collecting patient data from October 1, 2021, to January 4, 2022, retrospectively according to a common protocol. In total, we included 1711 participants in the analysis: 933 cases and 778 controls. Of the 933 cases, 508 (54.4 %) had mild and 425 (45.6 %) had moderate to severe disease presentation. We observed no effectiveness aga...

Latent safety threats in a pediatric emergency department: Using in situ simulation to test a new trauma room concept
DISCUSSION: With the help of this study, it could be shown that the implementation of in situ simulation before the commissioning of new clinical premises and the introduction of new processes can contribute to the detection of latent safety threats in an interdisciplinary German pediatric emergency department.PMID:38644149 | DOI:10.1016/j.zefq.2024.03.005 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Evidenz, Fortbildung und Qualitat im Gesundheitswesen)

Contextual factors and mechanisms in the implementation of Value Stream Mapping in breast cancer centres - A multiple case study
CONCLUSIONS: These results confirm the important role of leadership in implementation projects. Leadership support enabled the mechanisms found. The used combination of theoretical approaches from management research and implementation science determined the interpretation and should be applied more often in implementation science.PMID:38644150 | DOI:10.1016/j.zefq.2024.03.006 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Evidenz, Fortbildung und Qualitat im Gesundheitswesen)

Influence of frailty status on the health-related quality of life in older patients with chronic low back pain: a retrospective observational study
ConclusionsA significant association exists between frailty and reduced HRQoL in patients with chronic low back pain. This association was predominant in female patients. Furthermore, considering the dynamic nature of frailty, early detection and effective interventions targeting pre-frailty are essential to delaying the transition to full frailty and improving HRQoL. Cancer population norms using a new value set for the SF-6Dv2 based on the preferences of patients with breast or colorectal cancer in Quebec
ConclusionCancer population norms can serve as a baseline for interpreting the scores obtained by a given population in comparison to the situation of another group. In this way, our results can assist in comparing utility scores among cancer patients with different sociodemographic groups to other patients/populations groups. To our knowledge, our identified utility norms are the first for patients with breast or colorectal cancer from Quebec. (Source: Quality of Life Research)
