Inflammation inhibitory activity of green tea, soybean, and guava extracts during Sars-Cov-2 infection through TNF protein in cytokine storm
Comput Biol Chem. 2023 May 23;105:107898. doi: 10.1016/j.compbiolchem.2023.107898. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCoronavirus disease is caused by the pathogen severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-Cov-2) known as COVID-19. COVID-19 has caused the deaths of 6,541,936 people worldwide as of September 27th, 2022. SARS-CoV-2 severity is determined by a cytokine storm condition, in which the innate immune system creates an unregulated and excessive production of pro-inflammatory such IL-1, IL-6, NF Kappa B, and TNF alpha signaling molecules known as cytokines. The patient died due to respiratory organ failure an...

Graphene and gold nanoparticle-based bionanocomposite for the voltammetric determination of bisphenol A in (micro)plastics
Chemosphere. 2023 May 22:139016. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.139016. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe monitoring of endocrine disruptors in the environment is one of the main strategies in the investigation of potential risks associated with exposure to these chemicals. Bisphenol A is one of the most prevalent endocrine-disrupting compounds and is prone to leaching out from polycarbonate plastic in both freshwater and marine environments. Additionally, microplastics also can leach out bisphenol A during their fragmentation in the water environment. In the quest for a highly sensitive sensor to determine bisphenol A in...

Mineral composition and production of guava under salt stress and salicylic acid
Braz J Biol. 2023 May 22;83:e272615. doi: 10.1590/1519-6984.272615. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTThe limitation in the quality of water sources for irrigation in the semi-arid region of northeastern Brazil is increasingly present, so it is necessary to use water with high concentrations of salts for agricultural production, which makes the use of elicitors essential to mitigate the harmful effects of salinity on plants. Given the above, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of foliar application of salicylic acid on the mineral composition and production of guava plants under salt stress conditions in the pos...

A biochemical and morphological study with multiple linear regression modeling-based impact prediction of ambient air pollutants on some native tree species of Haldwani City of Kumaun Himalaya, Uttarakhand, India
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 May 20. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-27563-4. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe current study was conducted around the province of Haldwani City, Uttarakhand, India, to understand the seasonal variation of ambient air pollutants (PM2.5, PM10, SO2, and NO2) and their impact on four tree species, i.e., neem (Azadirachta indica), mountain cedar (Toona ciliate), bottlebrush (Callistemon citrinus), and guava (Psidium guajava) during 2020-2021. Multiple linear regression (MLR)-based prediction analysis showed that the selected air quality variables (PM2.5, PM10, SO2, and NO2) had a significant impact ...

Health risk assessment of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) concentrations in soil and fruits of selected perennial economic trees growing naturally in the vicinity of the abandoned mining ponds in Kuba, Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA) Plateau State, Nigeria
In conclusion, the results and risk assessment provided by this study indicate that human exposure to fruits from abandoned mines suggests a high vulnerability of the local community to PTE toxicity. Long-term preventive measures to safeguard the health of the residents need to be put in place. (Source: Environmental Geochemistry and Health)

Psidium guajava: An insight into ethnomedicinal uses, phytochemistry, and pharmacology
CONCLUSION: In this review, an attempt is made to show all literature studied, especially in phytochemistry, pharmacology, clinical trials and uses as traditional folk medicine around the world. The leaves have been used by folklore over the years to treat various ailments such as skin ulcers, diarrhoea, vaginal irritation, cough, conjunctivitis, etc. Further studies are required to explore more therapeutic remedies and to develop new medicines for future perspectives.PMID:37170987 | DOI:10.2174/1386207326666230426093315 (Source: Combinatorial Chemistry and High Throughput Screening)
