Coxarthrosis
Time goes by so quickly that I can’t keep up. So much to do around the house (etc.), the cats (etc)…etc.  And then…Coxarthrosis came into my life…  The pain began months ago…I don’t remember exactly when,  but I recently found an October 2020 text message sent to a friend in which I wrote that I had some pain in my hip and unfortunately had to postpone our rendezvous. So something was clearly happening as many as seven (!) months ago. Back then, though, Stefano and I both thought it was just a pulled muscle or something minor that would heal itself in time… I began paying ...

Do Girls Really Show More Empathy Than Boys?
By Emma Young Three people are walking down the street, two women and one man. One of the women trips and falls. Which of the two observers will feel more empathy for her pain? Hundreds of studies suggest that it’ll be the woman. However, these results almost overwhelmingly come from self-reports. Objective evidence that women genuinely feel more empathy than men is very thin on the ground. Can ’t Agree on Values? The State Will Decide for You
Neal McCluskeyThis week we entered battle number 2,500 on thePublic Schooling Battle Map, which now catalogs a  total of 2,507 values‐ and identity‐based conflicts in public schools. These are the most intense of conflicts because they have very personal stakes: whether your children are taught the moral and other values you think they should – or shouldnot– learn, and how you see yourself – your race, religion, etc. – treated in school policies and curricula. No doubt right now the two highest profile battles of the sorts we catalogue on the Map are over the teaching ofcritical race theory, or other approac...

#HITtheTrails Mix Tape
There is nothing better than a good mix tape to accompany you on a long road trip. To this day, any song by John Denver invokes memories of childhood road vacations to Daytona Beach. A good song can make the miles melt away. Mix tapes are also great to help get you pumped up and […] (Source: EMR and HIPAA)

Describing Groups To Children Using Generic Language Can Accidentally Teach Them Social Stereotypes
By Matthew Warren When we talk to children about the characteristics of boys and girls, our word choice and syntax can profoundly shape what they take away from the conversation. Even attempts to dispel stereotypes can backfire: as we recently reported, telling kids that girls are “as good as” boys at maths can actually leave them believing that boys are naturally better at the subject and that girls have to work harder. Other work has shown that “generic” language can also perpetuate stereotypes: saying that boys “like to play football”, for instance, can make children believe that all boys like to ...

Amplify Inspiration
On a group call for the Amplify course last week, we did a two-part co-creative exercise. The first part involved connecting with our sorrow, and the second part was to see the invitation in that sorrow to discover a new place of joy. Then members co-created intentions for the world with the purpose of sharing those intentions publicly – with the hope that we may collectively inspire more positive ripples in the world. I promised to share on my blog the intentions that people wanted to put out into the world. Every group was free to decide what medium to use to express their intentions, as long as it was something we ...

Congenital Megacolon- CT

One physician ’s journey from burnout to bliss [PODCAST]
“As a young girl, I ’d stand on my tiptoes, craning my neck to watch her sweep cerulean eye shadow across lids and smear foundation on sunken cheeks. While my high school friends resorted to secondhand eye shadow instruction from the pages of Teen magazine, I learned by watching my mom transform the face of a […]Find jobs at  Careers by KevinMD.com.  Search thousands of physician, PA, NP, and CRNA jobs now.  Learn more. Our little family in Tennessee does COVID
On the nights he is home for dinner, the boys sit next to him (if it’s an even day of the month), and on odd days, it’s the girls’ turn. I sit far away. Happily.
