Treating Severe Adverse Drug Reactions Caused by Ischemic Optic Neuropathy with Ginkgo Biloba Extract Injection: A Case Report
CONCLUSIONS: This case underscores the need for vigilance when prescribing ginkgo biloba extract, particularly in middle-aged and elderly patients. Despite no previous history of allergies and adherence to the prescribed dosage, severe ADR can still occur. Close monitoring of patients within the first 30 minutes of medication administration is crucial. Furthermore, strict adherence to drug instructions, proper TCM syndrome differentiation, appropriate choice of infusion solvents, and strict control of drip rates should be considered to enhance patient safety. Other factors such as patient age, allergy history, and initial ...

The enzymatic modification of whey-proteins for spray drying encapsulation of Ginkgo-biloba extract
In this study, different carriers including maltodextrin (MD), and its combination with gum-Arabic (MD-GA), whey protein concentrate (MD-WPC), and whey-protein hydrolysate (MD-HWPC) were used to encapsulate GBLE. Powder production yield, physicochemical/functional characteristics, physical stability and flowability of particles were affected by the type and composition of carriers. FTIR results indicated the placement of phenolic compounds in the carrier matrix. The SEM images also showed the morphological changes of particles (especially the size, indentation and surface shrinkage) under the influence of various carriers....

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 4950: Chitosan Nanoparticles-Preparation, Characterization and Their Combination with Ginkgo biloba Extract in Preliminary In Vitro Studies
Krucińska Nanoparticles (NPs), due to their size, have a key position in nanotechnology as a spectrum of solutions in medicine. NPs improve the ability of active substances to penetrate various routes: transdermal, but also digestive (active endocytosis), respiratory and injection. Chitosan, an N-deacetylated derivative of chitin, is a natural biodegradable cationic polymer with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Cross-linked chitosan is an excellent matrix for the production of nanoparticles containing active substances, e.g., the Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE). Chitosan nanoparticles with the ...

Efficacy and safety of Ginkgo biloba dropping pills in the treatment of coronary heart disease with stable angina pectoris and depression: study protocol for a randomised, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, double-blind and multicentre clinical trial
Background Coronary heart disease(CHD) with stable angina pectoris is a common cardiovascular disease. It has been reported that 10%–81.4% of these patients suffer from psychological conditions, such as depression, which has been associated with more frequent angina, lower treatment satisfaction and lower perceived quality of life. Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE), the raw material of Ginkgo biloba dropping pills (GBDPs), is widely used to treat various conditions, including cardiovascular disease, ischaemic cerebrovascular disease, and depression. This clinical trial aimed to examine the efficacy and safety of GBDPs in im...

Three medicinal plants affecting human ovarian cell viability, hormone release, and response to environmental contaminant toluene
Physiol Res. 2023 Apr 30;72(2):259-268.ABSTRACTThe present study examined the effect of medicinal plants - ginkgo, tribulus (puncture vine), and yucca - on ovarian functions and their response to the toxic influence of toluene. Therefore, we analyzed the effect of toluene with and without these plant extracts on cultured human ovarian granulosa cells. Cell viability and the release of progesterone, insulin-like growth factor I (IGF I), oxytocin, and prostaglandin F (PGF) were analyzed using the trypan blue test, enzyme immunoassay, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, respectively. The ginkgo, tribulus and yucca were abl...
