Comparing Pre- and Post-Operative Findings in Patients Who Underwent Laparoscopic Proximal Gastrectomy With a Double-Flap Technique: A Study on High-Resolution Manometry, Impedance pH Monitoring, and Esophagogastroduodenoscopy Findings
CONCLUSIONS: There is no significant functional difference in HRM and impedance pH monitoring tests after DFT. DFT appears to be useful in preserving LES function following proximal gastrectomy.PMID:38575507 | PMC:PMC10995827 | DOI:10.5230/jgc.2024.24.e1 (Source: Journal of Gastric Cancer)

Pancreatic Cancer: Rapid Evidence Review
Am Fam Physician. 2024 Mar;109(3):245-250.ABSTRACTPancreatic cancer is relatively uncommon and carries a poor prognosis because patients often develop signs or symptoms at a late stage of illness. Patients with a family history, especially those with genetic syndromes, are at a significantly increased risk of pancreatic cancer. Modifiable risk factors include smoking, heavy alcohol use, and obesity. Although patients at increased risk should be screened, screening is not recommended for asymptomatic people at average risk. The differential diagnosis for a symptomatic patient is broad, including gastroesophageal reflux dise...

Comparison of the efficacy, safety and postoperative quality of life between modified side overlap anastomosis and double-tract anastomosis after laparoscopic proximal gastrectomy
ConclusionThe efficacy and safety of LPG with mSOA for PGC were comparable. When compared with the DTA group, the mSOA group seems to show reduced incidence of gastroesophageal reflux and improved QOL, which makes mSOA one of the ideal surgical methods for PGC. (Source: Updates in Surgery)

The Effectiveness of Diaphragmatic Breathing on Reflux in Family Medicine Patients
To investigate if a one-time instruction in a diaphragmatic breathing exercise program, in a primary care setting, performed remotely or in person, was adequate at reducing symptoms of gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD) and anti-reflux medications usage. Evaluating the Tolerability of Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists in Lung Transplant Recipients
Purpose: Glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) are approved for the treatment of diabetes mellitus and obesity. GLP-1RA side effects overlap with those of commonly used lung transplant medications including nausea, diarrhea, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and delayed gastric motility. The safety and tolerability of GLP-1RAs after lung transplantation is unknown. (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)

Paraesophageal Hernia Repair in a Lung Transplant Recipient: Is It Safe?
Introduction: It is well described that lung transplant (LTx) recipients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) have a higher risk of both acute and chronic rejection. However, there is limited data on the outcomes of antireflux operations within this cohort. Less is known about patients requiring complex postoperative foregut surgery after LTx. Here we present a case of a LTx recipient with a large paraesophageal hernia (PEH) who had a successful repair due to deliberate management during the immediate postoperative course. Impact of Lung Transplant on DeMeester Score in Patients with Connective Tissue Disease and Gastroesophageal Reflux: An 11-Year Single-Center Experience
Purpose: Lung transplant recipients (LTRs) with connective tissue disease (CTD) commonly have esophageal dysmotility (ED) that drives dysphagia and esophageal stasis. The risk of aspiration from ED is augmented by gastroesophageal reflux (GER). We sought to determine whether pre-LT GER as assessed by the DeMeester score changes after LT among recipients with CTD. Bile Acids Aspiration Induces Fibrosis and Disrupts Surfactant Homeostasis in Human Lungs
Purpose: Lung transplantation remains the only treatment for end stage lung disease. However, survival remains limited by chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD) characterized by progressive distal airway fibrosis. Multiple risk factors have been associated with CLAD, including gastroesophageal reflux aspiration. Previous studies have established Bile Acids (BA), detected in the airways, as marker of reflux aspiration and predictors of CLAD. The action of BA on human broncho-alveolar cell and tissue components is poorly explored, although its understanding could contribute to define mechanisms for CLAD. (Source: The Jour...

Anti-Reflux Surgery for Prevention of CLAD Onset After Lung Transplantation: The Earlier the Better? A Single-Center Series of 284 Patients
Purpose: GERD is highly prevalent after lung transplantation (LTx), and suspected to favor chronic lung allograft disease (CLAD) development, mainly in its bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS) phenotype. Preventive effect of antireflux surgery (ARS) on BOS/CLAD onset in patients with GERD still remains debated. We aimed to compare the outcome of GERD patients with or without performed ARS, and those without GERD. (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)
