The influence of genetic predisposition to oxidative stress on painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy: A mendelian randomization study
This study employed a Mendelian Randomization (MR) approach to investigate the causal relationship between genetic predisposition to OS and PDPN. Genetic instruments associated with OS biomarkers were selected as exposures. Summary-level data on PDPN was obtained from the largest available genome-wide association study (GWAS). MR analyses were conducted using the inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method, with sensitivity analyses employing the MR-Egger, weighted median, and MR-PRESSO approaches. Genetic predisposition to increased glutathione S-transferase (GST) activity was associated with a reduced risk of PDPN (OR=0.66, 9...

Buprenorphine Affects the Initiation and Severity of Interleukin Induced Acute Pancreatitis in Mice
Am J Physiol Gastrointest Liver Physiol. 2024 Apr 23. doi: 10.1152/ajpgi.00083.2024. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAcute pancreatitis (AP) is a common disease with no targeted therapy and has varied outcomes ranging from spontaneous resolution to being lethal. While typically painful, AP can also be painless. Various agents, including opioids are used for pain control in AP; the risks, and benefits of which are often debated. Since experimental AP in mice is used to study the efficacy of potential therapies, we studied the effect of a commonly used opioid buprenorphine on the initiation and progression of AP. For this we a...

BiliQML: A supervised machine-learning model to quantify biliary forms from digitized whole-slide liver histopathological images
Am J Physiol Gastrointest Liver Physiol. 2024 Apr 23. doi: 10.1152/ajpgi.00058.2024. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe progress of research focused on cholangiocytes and the biliary tree during development and following injury is hindered by limited available quantitative methodologies. Current techniques include two-dimensional standard histological cell-counting approaches, which are rapidly performed error-prone and lack architectural context; or three-dimensional analysis of the biliary tree in opacified livers, which introduce technical issues along with minimal quantitation. The present study aims to fill these quant...

Trans-Ancestral Genetic Risk Factors for Treatment-Related Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Survivors of Childhood Cancer
CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest therapy-related genetic risks contribute to the increased T2D burden among non-Hispanic Black childhood cancer survivors. Additional study of how therapy-related genetic susceptibility contributes to this disparity is needed.PMID:38652878 | DOI:10.1200/JCO.23.02281 (Source: Cancer Control)

Interactions between folate metabolism-related nutrients and polymorphisms on colorectal cancer risk: a case-control study in the Basque country
Eur J Nutr. 2024 Apr 23. doi: 10.1007/s00394-024-03371-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFolate-mediated one-carbon metabolism (FOCM) plays an important role in colorectal carcinogenesis. Previous studies have assessed the role of folate-mediated one-carbon metabolism (FOCM)-related gene-diet interaction in the aetiology of colorectal cancer (CRC), however, the results remained inconclusive. Thus, this study aimed to investigate dietary factors and genetic variants related to FOCM, as well as potential nutrient-gene and nutrient-lifestyle interactions, on CRC risk. This observational study included 229 patients diagnosed wi...

Forensic efficiency and population genetic construction of Guizhou Gelao minority from Southwest China revealed by a panel of 23 autosomal STR loci
Forensic Sci Res. 2024 Jan 5;9(2):owad058. doi: 10.1093/fsr/owad058. eCollection 2024 Jun.ABSTRACTShort tandem repeats (STRs) are the most common genetic markers in forensic and human population genetics due to their high polymorphism, rapid detection, and reliable genotyping. To adapt the rapid growth of forensic DNA database and solve problems in disputed cases, a panel of 23 autosomal STR loci with high discriminating ability was constructed recently. The Tai-Kadai-speaking Gelao is the most ancient indigenous minority in Guizhou province, however, the forensic efficiency and population genetic structure remain poorly e...

Genomic Testing Identifies Monogenic Causes in Patients with Very Early-Onset Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Multi-center Survey in an Iranian Cohort
Clin Exp Immunol. 2024 Apr 23:uxae037. doi: 10.1093/cei/uxae037. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPatients with very early-onset inflammatory bowel disease (VEO-IBD) may present because of underlying monogenic inborn errors of immunity (IEI). Strong differences have been observed in the causes of monogenic IBD among ethnic populations. This multi-center study was carried out on 16 Iranian patients with VEO-IBD. We reviewed clinical and basic immunologic evaluation including flow cytometry and immunoglobulin levels. All patients underwent clinical whole exome sequencing (WES). Sixteen patients (8 females and 8 males) with a me...

Flow cytometric minimal residual disease measurement accounting for cytogenetics in children with non ‐high‐risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia treated according to the ALL‐MB 2008 protocol
ConclusionOur data show that combining clinical risk factors with MFC-MRD measurement is the most useful tool for risk group stratification of children with BCP-ALL in the reduced-intensity protocols. However, this algorithm can be supplemented with cytogenetic data for part of the ImR group. (Source: Cancer Medicine)

GSE264288 The effect of CRISPLD2 on TGF β-induced fibroblast fibrosis
In this study, human cysteine-rich secreted protein LCCL domain protein 2 (CRISPLD2) was found increased reactivity in TGFβ induced fibroblasts, and we further confirmed that CRISPLD2 can participate in TGFβ induced fibroblast fibrosis from multiple perspectives and levels, and investigated the mechanism of CRISPLD2 in fibrosis, providing evidence for CRISPLD2 to become a clinical potentia l therapeutic target and a new biomarker.
