Placenta Accreta Spectrum - Present and Future
PAS, a condition when the placenta fails to detach from the uterine wall during delivery, poses a serious risk of morbidity and mortality for pregnant individuals. Timely and accurate diagnosis of PAS, along with effective management strategies such as determining the right time for delivery, preoperative planning, intraoperative approach, and postoperative care are essential steps to improve maternal outcomes. However, the field must address significant research gaps in knowledge to achieve consensus on best practice for managing. This workshop convenes experts, health care providers, and stakeholders, including represent...

Biowulf 25th anniversary seminar series
The High Performance Computing group is celebrating 25 years of providing scientific supercomputing services to NIH intramural researchers. Starting in 1999 with 40 " boxes and shelves " and 14 users, Biowulf has grown to 4000+ compute nodes and 2400+ active users. To mark Biowulf's 25th anniversary we have a lineup of scientific talks from some of the great labs using Biowulf for their research. For more information go tohttps://hpc.nih.gov/training/biowulf-25th-anniversary-seminars.htmlAir date: 6/13/2024 11:00:00 AM (Source: Videocast - All Events)

Identifying novel pediatric pancreatitis biomarkers with urine proteomics
Acute pancreatitis (AP) is an inflammatory disorder of the pancreas and is among the most common gastrointestinal disorders resulting in hospitalization worldwide. Diagnosis of AP remains challenging for two reasons: 1) current biomarkers (serum lipase and amylase) have poor specificity to pancreatic disease, and 2) the temporal nature of AP complicates point-of-care testing that requires blood-based biomarkers. In this work, we apply urine proteomics to study a discovery cohort containing 130 pediatric patients under 21 years old including a mixture of AP subjects, chronic pancreatitis (CP) subjects, extremity fracture pa...

“ Resistance and susceptibility to intestinal helminths: from cross protective immunity to chronic infection ”
Dr. Grencis will present this IIG seminar. His lab uses experimental systems to define mechanisms of resistance and susceptibility to intestinal nematodes, particularly Trichuris muris and Trichinella spiralis. His work established that type 2 immune responses are essential for host protective immunity to gut dwelling nematodes and a key role for interleukin 13 in worm expulsion. He is now investigating immune mechanisms underpinning chronic intestinal nematode infection and cross protective innate immunity to gastrointestinal helminths.Air date: 5/29/2024 4:00:00 PM (Source: Videocast - All Events)

NIH FDA COVID-19 SIG: The role of the complement system in Long Covid
Some individuals can endure persistent, debilitating symptoms for many months after an initial severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. However, the factors underpinning these health issues, called Long Covid, are poorly understood. Comparing the blood of patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection with that of uninfected controls, we found that patients experiencing Long Covid exhibited changes to serum proteins indicating activation of the complement system, altered coagulation, and tissue injury. At the cellular level, Long Covid was linked to aggregates comprising monocytes and platelets...
