Policies on doctors' declaration of interests in medical organisations: a thematic analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The analysis of organisational policies revealed wide variation in what interests should be declared, when and how. This variation suggests that the current system may not be adequate to maintain a high level of professional integrity in all settings and that there is a need for better standardisation that reduces the risk of errors while addressing the needs of doctors, organisations and the public.PMID:37288549 | DOI:10.1177/01410768231181248 (Source: J R Soc Med AND (has...)

Stars from the bones —An uncommon presentation of fat embolism syndrome
MRI Brain shows extensive bilateral, symmetrical punctuate foci of nearly the same size and abnormal signal intensities giving the appearance of a starfield pattern on T2-weighted images with restricted diffusion. AbstractTrauma or surgery to the lower limbs can cause fat from the marrow within the leg bones to enter the bloodstream and form an embolus. However, if there is cerebral involvement without any pulmonary or dermatological manifestations at diagnosis, it could delay identifying cerebral fat embolism (CFE). (Source: Clinical Case Reports)

Bilateral acute anterior uveitis and optic nerve edema as a manifestation of coronavirus disease ‐2019 (COVID‐19): A case report
The objective of this study was to show that acute anterior uveitis and optic disk edema could be possible manifestations of COVID-19 infection. The patient was a nine-year-old girl presenting with prolonged fever, myalgia, cough, diarrhea, and skin rashes. She also reported blurred vision, Photophobia, and eye redness. PCR test for COVID-19 returned positive. Imaging investigations showed pleural and pericardial effusion, mediastinal lymphadenopathy, and heart valve regurgitation. She was diagnosed with MIS-C and treated with methylprednisolone and IVIG. Bilateral acute anterior uveitis and optic disk edema was detected b...

A rare case of dentinogenic ghost cell tumor with concomitant odontoma
We present an extremely rare case of combined dentinogenic ghost cell tumor and odontoma. Key Clinical MessageA case of dentinogenic ghost cell tumor occurring simultaneously with a clinically diagnosed odontoma. The occurrence of epithelial and mesenchymal tumors at the same site is very rare, but should be kept in mind during pathological diagnosis.AbstractDentinogenic ghost cell tumor (DGCT) is a rare and benign odontogenic tumor composed of ghost cells, calcified tissue, and dentin. We present an extremely rare case of a 32-year-old female who was clinically diagnosed with an odontoma presenting with a painless swellin...

Guillain ‐Barré syndrome following COVID‐19 vaccination: An updated systematic review of cases
Prisma Flow diagram of the studies included in the systematic review;GBS following COVID-19 vaccination. Key Clinical MessageGuillain-Barr é syndrome (GBS) is a rare but possible complication that may occur after COVID-19 vaccination. In this systematic review, we found that GBS presented in patients with an average age of 58. The average time for symptoms to appear was 14.4 days. Health care providers should be aware of this potent ial complication.AbstractMost instances of Guillain-Barr é syndrome (GBS) are caused by immunological stimulation and are discovered after vaccinations for tetanus toxoid, oral polio, and s...

Metastatic renal cell carcinoma presenting as multiple cutaneous lesions visualized through reflectance confocal microscopy
We present a case of metastatic renal cell carcinoma is described on reflectance confocal microscopy. Key Clinical MessageWe present the first case of metastatic renal cell carcinoma visualized via reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM). This case describes the RCM features of such a tumor, in an effort to improve noninvasive characterization of cutaneous metastases. (Source: Clinical Case Reports)

Detection of CSF1 gene derangement in ‘sclerosing mucoepidermoid carcinoma with eosinophilia’ of the parotid gland masquerading as Langerhans cell histiocytosis
We presented one case initially diagnosed as Langerhans cell histiocytosis and recurred as a frankly invasive carcinoma. Molecular studies showed CSF1 gene derangement and provided new understanding concerning the Langerhans cell and eosinophilic reaction. Further molecular studies on this entity would throw light on its oncogenesis and refine its nomenclature. (Source: Clinical Case Reports)

Intravesical textiloma mistook for bladder stone: A case report
Key Clinical MessageIntravesical textiloma is a rare surgical complication, that may cause nonspecific lower urinary tract symptoms. Clinicians should consider it in patients with a history of bladder surgery and persistent or new-onset urinary symptoms.AbstractIntravesical textiloma is a rare condition usually presents asymptomatic or with non specific symptoms. A 72  years old man with prior open prostatectomy presented lower urinary tract symptoms and diagnosed with bladder stones, explorative laparotomy revealed semi calcified gauze. Similar history should prompt suspicion of this condition. (Source: Clinical Case Reports)
