Cough syrups by India's Maiden Pharma linked to 66 deaths in Gambia, WHO issues alert
The WHO also issued a medical product alert asking regulators to remove Maiden Pharma goods from the market. The products may have been distributed elsewhere through informal markets, but had so far only been identified in Gambia, the WHO said in its alert. Maiden Pharmaceuticals had license to export, not locally sell cough & cold syrup, India says
India's health and welfare ministry said Thursday that Maiden Pharmaceuticals had the license to only export four drugs that are now linked to have killed 66 children in Gambia. "Four drugs, out of 23, named Promethazine Oral Solution BP, Kofexnalin Baby Cough Syrup, MaKoff Baby Cough Syrup and MaGrip n Cold Syrup, are not sold in India," stated a press release.
