Her rehabilitation stay was complicated by a weight gai n of five pounds in the first week. Her follow-up evaluation at the heart failure clinic (one week after her hospital discharge) recommended intravenous furosemide, for which she was directly transferred to the heart failure clinic’s outpatient infusion center. Kentucky adopts new horse racing safety reforms, bans controversial drug
As both external and internal pressure mounts on the horse racing industry, Kentucky ’s regulatory agency has enacted new safety reforms, including a ban on a controversial drug.  The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission voted this week to start phasing out the race day use of Lasix, according to a news release. Lasix is another name for the diuretic furosemide and is administered to horses to reduce or prevent bleeding from exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhages brought on by intense workouts.
