Reminder to Review Accuracy of Grant Information Before October 3, 2022
We make data on all funded NIH grants available to the public on the RePORT website. One of the ways we provide information is by school/department, which you can explore using the Awards by Location feature. Because of inconsistencies in the way information on department and school names are provided in grant applications, recipient officials may want to make changes in how that information is reflected in NIH systems. Preliminary Data on Childcare Cost Support for National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Fellows
In April 2021, recognizing the high cost of childcare, NIH began allowing recipients of full-time National Research Service Awards (NRSA) fellowships to request support for childcare costs. Fellows could make these requests in new and continuation applications or as administrative supplements to existing awards. Each fellow is now eligible to receive up to $2,500 per budget period to defray childcare costs. Here, we share preliminary data on childcare cost requests and issuances.

FORMS-H Coming for January 2023 Due Dates
Applicants applying to NIH funding opportunities with due dates on or after January 25, 2023 must use updated application forms and instructions identified with a Competition ID of “FORMS-H” (NOT-OD-22-195).
The primary change to the updated application forms is the addition of an “Other Plan(s)” attachment on the PHS 398 Research Plan and PHS 398 Career Development Supplemental forms as part of the implementation of the 2023 NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy. Applicants must attach the required Data Management and Sharing Plan in this new field in FORMS-H applications (NOT-OD-22-189).

Extended Grants.gov Downtime Impacts September 22-30 Due Dates
Grants.gov will migrate their services to the cloud during an extended downtime from Friday, September 23, 2022 at 12:01 AM ET through Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 11:59 PM ET. We successfully migrated our own eRA systems to the cloud in April 2020 and understand the planning, coordination, and time required for the effort. The downtime, though necessary, will have significant impact on the preparation and submission of grant applications to NIH.

What Demographic Information Does NIH Collect on Researchers, and How Is It Used?
NIH collects demographic information including sex, ethnicity, race, and disability status from researchers as part of their eRA personal profile. Providing demographic information is voluntary and an option exists to select “Do not wish to provide” for each category.
The demographic data collected are confidential and used for aggregate statistical reporting only, not for consideration of funding of individual grant applications. Collecting demographic data as part of the eRA personal profile provides information for NIH to better understand its supported research workforce and program participation.
