Q: Access to Medicine for Biomedical Graduate
Hello, I graduated last year with a 2:1 Biomedical Science degree but I want to carry on into Medicine. This is what I have always wanted to do. Now the problem I have is that my A level results are really bad and looking at the uni websites for Medicine e.g. Manchester, they are requiring A level grades that I do not have. I totally messed up my A levels due to immaturity and all sorts of other problems I had and out of the 3 courses I did, only one of them was a science one (Biology - D). I did apply to the universities for the 2013 entry but I didn't get any interviews. This is why I considered taking the A2M cours...

New abstract reasoning practice
Hey everyone! I've just taken the plunge and booked my UKCAT for the end of July. The only section that I need practice with is abstract reasoning - I've always struggled with it! I'm looking for a decent question bank that I can use to practice with for the next month. I've got the 600 questions book already, but that doesn't have the new style questions. Does anyone know whether Medify has the new styles? If not, does anyone know where has a good amount of them? I'm happy to pay... Well, I'm willing to pay, anyway! Thanks :) (Source: New Media Medicine)

section 3
hey does anyone know id this would be alright for this section 3: "Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd." (Voltaire) Explain what this statement means. Argue to the contrary that to be certain about something is not necessarily absurd. To what extent do you agree with Voltaire?: Voltaire is basically saying that whilst questioning something can be a very daunting feeling it is better than merely accepting something as truth. This statement therefore promotes science , in particular science that evolves around the later philosophised science of falsification as explored by scientific phil...

Medicine with a 2.2 Biomedical Science with Physiology Degree
Hello, I have recently graduated from my university with a 2.2 in biomedical sciences with physiology much to my disappointment. I am however still determined to pursue a career in medicine. While from my reading thus far I have ascertained that it will be difficult to achieve this, it is thankfully not impossible. I am aware of the graduate entry route with SGUL, Nottingham and Peninsula all accepting 2.2's. However I am struggling to find information on whether I could apply to other universities for undergraduate medicine? I have fairly decent A levels of AAAB (A's in bio, maths and geog, with the B in chem), and a hea...

Any Chance with a 3rd Class degree
Hi guys, I just found out that i got a 3rd class degree in a Biomedical Sciences degree. Partly my own fault and partly due to family problems. I know excuses won't help now. Gutted, disappointed and feeling utterly shattered. Is my dream of medicine over? What are my options now? I've heard about Open University and using my degree to get a another Bsc and boosting it to at least a 2.1 but I'm not too informed about this, if someone could enlighten me? Will this take another 3 years? And will universities accept this? Also some GAMSAT universities would accept a 3rd with a Masters(SGUL?), Again I'm not too sure. I've ...

Has there ever been an age limit to accessing med school?
Hey guys, I'm doing a project on Mature junior doctors and how they compare to school-leavers in the first few years of being a doctor. Does anyone know if there have ever been a strict age limit on entry to medical school? When was it dropped and why? I've always thought that there was definitely an upper age limit in the past but that EU laws forbid it but I need more specific information than that if possible. I don't know where to find this so I thought I'd the knowledgeable people on here! :) Cheers Vicky (Source: New Media Medicine)

Work Experience and references
Hi, I've just got back to this forum as I'm thinking of sitting this year's GAMSAT for 2014 entry! I have a few questions regarding the work experience part of the application assessment. I've had work experience in a hospice for more than a year - 2006 to 2007; shadowed surgeons for one month in 2005 in a hospital, I have letters proving that I did these placements, but they're dated 2009! I've also worked in a hospital part-time for three years, which involved working with patients. I did this while doing my undergraduate degree. unfortunately, I've lost touch with the people I used to work with and I don't think I ca...

Difficulty of the UKCAT and practice materials
Hello everyone, For those of you who've already taken the UKCAT in another cycle, can you please let me know how it compared in reality to the various test prep materials you used? This seems a lot easier than some of the other stuff I've seen. All input is appreciated! Thanks FL (Source: New Media Medicine)
