Entering 2nd year with serious doubts
I worked so hard for so long to get into medical school but now that I'm here I'm not sure it's what I want. It isn't that the work is too hard (although it is) - I've never been afraid of hard work. It's just that since I've joined med school all the joy and colour seems to have gone from my life. I've been feeling low and discontented since very early on but a devastating personal tragedy a few months ago has really kicked things into overdrive. It's made me totally reevaluate what I want in my life. For example I've always felt ambivalent about having a family but now I know that I definitely do. Not that being a doctor...

Gamsat Gold Standard Practice Tests comparison
Hi all, Im speaking specifically about the science section. This is a general question regarding the GAMSAT GOLD STANDARD (by Dr Ferdinand) practice tests. In terms of difficulty level, is anyone finding these practice tests a lot more difficult in comparison to the ACER booklets??? Or if anyone has experience with the actual exam, a comparison between the actual exam and the gamsat gold standard tests, would be greatly appreciated. I have so far only done the Acer sample questions and practice questions and did considerably well, but when I did the section 3 on the gold standard 1 practice exam i did terrible. Getti...

Doing a science A Level / improving maths GCSE for GEM
I completed my undergraduate degree in a non science subject last academic year and have since been volunteering in order to gain experience and knowledge. I won't bore people with my background etc but I would be grateful for some advice. I am hoping to apply to the GEM course at Nottingham and SGUL. Although both universities don't require specific GCSE's or A Levels I was wondering, with some time between now and when I apply, would it benefit my application (and if I get in and become a doctor) or later on in a medical career to have a grade A /A* in maths GCSE (I currently hold a C maths was my weakest result) or a Ch...

F2 abroad
Hello I am an F1 in the oxford deanery and was wondering if anyone had any experience with doing F2 abroad? I am thinking of going to new zealand or south africa, probably new Zealand as SA seems to be difficult to find equivalent f2 jobs. I am not planning to go straight to a training post when i get back so the timing of the jobs abroad does not matter to me. thanks (Source: New Media Medicine)

Always wanted to be a GP, should I study physician associate course instead?
Hi everyone, I've always wanted to be a GP to have patients to see diagnose treat and see through build a relationship with etc. I've recently found out about physician associates, it seems they can do everything a gp does with the exception of prescribing medicines. The course seems like a nice option for a graduate as it's 2 years compared to 4. would appreciate any feedback Pamela (Source: New Media Medicine)

Advice Please ASAP
Hello people just to give you a bit of background I am 23 years old ( turning 24 this month) I must say medicine was was never really my sole intention I always wanted to be an engineer, my A levels were disappointing achieving BBC in Biology, Chemistry, and Geography. I then went on to study biomaterials specifically material sciences and engineering- to cut a long story short in my final year I was accused of something ( and me actually not being to blame for it ) causing a couple of my exams to be failed and me achieving a 2.2 degree. After countless denied appeals I have accepted it is time to move on. Up until recentl...

Student finance wont tell me if I qualify!
I told student finance I have a level 4 diploma and a level 5 diploma and that I want to study medicine which is level 6 and they couldn't tell me if i'm eligible for all years of a medical course and told me to just make an application and see what happens. Why don't they know how their own system works? I know about the ELQ rules which mean I should qualify but I keep reading about weird stuff where they take every year you have studied above level 3 and minus it from your years of funding for a degree where 2 years of higher education (level 4 and 5) mean you get 2 less years of funding on your degree course. Does any...

Ukcat tomorrow!
Hi all. I am in a panicking mode at the moment. My UKCAT exam is tomorrow, 1pm, and I have no idea if I am ready for this or not. I have been revising throughout the summer...a little. I did some questions here and there but I have not got that great scores. I cannot reschedule my exam as there are no dates open. Realistically, how do you think I will do tomorrow. I have done the Medify 'Hard' Mock and got the scores followed - 20/44 - VR 19/36 - QR 35/55 - AR 9/28 - DA 40/65 - SJT I know, they are not very good scores. How does this relate to the real exam? How do you think I will do? :/ Thank you.All advice is welcome...

Distance learning A-levels?
I'm currently at uni and want to better my A-level biology grade. I got a B at AS level that was borderline A (like 1 UMS point or something) so I obviously don't want to redo the AS half, but for A2 I completely bombed it for a number of reasons and ended up with a D overall. Does anyone know any providers where I can do distance learning and sit the AQA Unit 4 and Unit 5 exams? I'm not interested in resitting the A2 EMPA as I got a C in that. Thanks! 1am and flustered! Applying 2015 with little hope but much determination
Hey, I've always had a passion for medicine, decided that to do it at undergrad just wasn't a fit for me, I was shy, and not focused enough, and hated my chem teacher. I went to uni, got a 2.1 in biomed degree, then have gone on to do a PhD, all the time convincing myself I don't need to do medicine. Anyway coming to the end of my PhD and its all still there, the want to do med. But only in the last month have I really become set on this being my path, I just can't pretend I don't want to try anymore. So this year I'm going to apply to Warwick, with the ukcat. Obviously narrowing my options to one isn't particularly helpf...
