The phasing out of graduate medicine??
I have heard from a a few sources including a commentor from a thread on TSR - I can't remember which though about the possible closing of gradate entry medicine so the 4 year accelerated degree would no longer be an option. I am about to go into my 2nd year of a 4yr degree and am thinking about medicine as a possible career and which the lengthening of Imperial extending their degree to a 5 year course and Leicester no longer running theres - I was wondering whether it may be possible that by the time I come to apply in 3/4 years will graduate entry medicine have been phasing out. A bit worried. What does my profile need? GEP applicant 2016-entry
Here's my info/profile: I'm in the third year of a Business Management degree at Sheffield University and have been working in a nursing home as a care assistant at weekends since February 2014. I've also been a Samaritans volunteer for a year and have had paid work experience in an unrelated field for a year before attending university. I've been looking at the profiles (on TSR, Reddit etc.) of a few of the people who've been rejected and it's frightening and disheartening, to be honest. I'll be applying for 2016 entry and was wondering what you guys think it would be useful to do over the next year based on your experi...

UKCAT exemption
Hi Was just wondering if anyone's ever been exempt from the UKCAT and still been offered a place on a graduate course? I hope someone, somewhere has, since it shouldn't be biased (otherwise why would they bother with processing exemptions!?) but I'm struggling to see how admissions rank an application without a score. It can't be the same as a low scoring applicant, so does this mean its likely to be valued as much as a High scoring applicant? If anyone has any info on this i'd be hugely grateful. FYI, I've been medically exempt from this years exam- it's not a case of geography Xx (Source: New Media Medicine)

Possibility of entering the university to study medicine after failing Chem with an F
Hi everybody, I may appear very strange but i really love Medicine and want to study it in college even if i have to go for 1,2 or 3 years more in the medical course, Is it possible for me to go into medicine?,if yes what should i do,where and how should i apply? what would i be asked? Will i take extra years in the medical course? if yes how many years? Staying back home for a year doing nothing will be a waist of time for me and retarding me from reaching my goal, a word will be of great help, thanks. (Source: New Media Medicine)

GAMSAT Section 2 Essay - Modern Art
In conclusion, modern art is no doubt more abstract and sometimes more difficult to comprehend than traditional art. It is this openness to interpretation though that gives modern art its beauty; a viewer searching for a meaning can develop their own connection with the art and the artist, often giving it a whole new message of their own. too much pressure on partner?
Med students with children, how have you and your partner coped with the demands of medical school? Do you split household chores evenly? At the moment I'm a stay at home mum to 3 (I left work when we moved overseas for my husband's job). I am planning to apply to med when we're back in the UK. I am trying to use any spare time to prepare for gamsat (evenings and when the baby sleeps) and I also do at least 2 hours a week (this week it was 15 hours) volunteering for St John ambulance. As a result my husband is having to pick up a lot of slack around the house and with the kids. He works full time and despite saying he's s...

e-petition: Tuition Fee Loans for Grads Studying on the 5 year medicine Degree
Hello, I'm a second year student at Exeter Medical School I would be grateful if you could sign my e-petition epetitions.direct.gov.uk/.../68617 I am a graduate studying on a 5 year medicine degree. I do not receive a tuition fee loan to support me through my 5 year medicine degree. My colleagues on the 4 year GEM courses do. I have created an e-petition to raise awareness about how this is preventing widening participation to medicine for people from diverse and non traditional backgrounds, particularly those from low income families. I don't expect this will change anything for me, but I am doing this in the hope that...

Anaesthetics training
Hi all, I am an FY1 doctor and have recently started considering anaesthetics as a career choice. I was wondering if there are any core trainees and/or registrars who would be able to tell me a bit about what the training years a like, particularly with regard to on calls and out of hours work. Unfortunately there are no anaesthetics foundation year jobs in my deanery although I do plan to use my taster days to get some experience but I was wondering if a current trainee would be willing to give me some inside information, either on the forum or via a personal message. Thanks in advance. (Source: New Media Medicine)

Materials and resources for Sections 1 &2 of GAMSAT
Hi all, I’ve been looking on the forums for advice as to which study books/ materials to invest in for GAMSAT. I can see that people have been very helpful and there’s lots of guidance for Section3. I’d appreciate any advice on what people recommend for Section 1 and 2. I’ve purchased the ACER booklets and Griffiths guide. I’m planning on going into Waterstones next week, taking recommended literature off the shelves and having a through good read to see what will fit my learning style before I start spending money on anything. Any direction to books, websites, apps etc will be appreciated. (I'm hoping to sit GAM...
