What's life like as a Liverpool GEM A101 student?
There's only 30 of you guys each year, aren't there? If you were a bit older when joining (mid 20's), was it a bit weird to be basically surrounded by a sea of 18 year olds...!? Is it customary for the GEM students from years above and below your own to socialize? Please let me know what life is like on the course... Thanks! (Source: New Media Medicine)

Doing research while working as a physician?
Hi, I am currently studying medicine at UCL in London. I was wondering if, after completing my medical studies and my residency (which I'd like to do in the US) I could do research (not clinical research but actual research on a specific topic, like genes for instance) and be a physician (either neurologist or oncologist) at the same time. Does anyone know if that's possible and how that would look like? Thanks! (Source: New Media Medicine)

Partner Income funding requirement
How is the partner income assessed and enforced? I have been told by SFE that if I live with someone (unmarried) that SFE and NHS will take into account our household income. This would be quite a burden on my girlfriend, as whilst we are living together I wouldn't expect her to support me throughout medical school. I graduated in 2012 from my undergrad and in 2013 from my post grad. I worked part time throughout my 4 years studying. In Jan 2014 I started working as a full time HCA in a local hospital. I will be 25 this September when I apply to med school and will be turning 26 if I get in next year. Therefore will I be...

Hi guys this is my third attempt at section 2 task b. I think I really suck at Task b so some critique would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance. Quote: It's beauty that captures your attention; personality that captures your heart. Let us take a moment and look at ourselves in the mirror. The way we perceive ourselves would depend on person to person. Yet, generally speaking, people who look more attractive are more likely to be content regarding what they see in the mirror. Others, like me, feel disheartened by the not-so-attractive face staring back. Everyone dreams of having their dream bodies with the perfect face...

GEM funding for students from Scotland
Hi First post here so apologies if it is in wrong place. I'm not eligible to study at Scottish medical school due to not having life science background and the dreaded 2:2! And there are no GEM courses, which I'd prefer instead of a 5 year course. So I have to study in England which means £9000 fees. As I have a first degree and an MSc, SAAS will not pay fees or let me have a tuition fee loan but I can get a token maintenance loan but this will obviously not be enough. Whereas, students from England have to pay ~£3500 in 1st year, get a tuition fee loan of ~£5500 per year and years 2-4 the NHS pays the first £3500...
