Free GAMSAT study materials
I was sold some GAMSAT study materials for >£200, but when it turned up it was all copies. I sat the exam in 2009 and got into med school. We are in the process of moving and I would like to get rid of the materials, but don't want to throw it away. It anybody is close to Derby and is looking for a box of GAMSAT (various sources) study material copies, I would be happy to hand them over for free (pick up only - heavy box). Please PM me if interested. Thanks, Berendine (Source: New Media Medicine)

Advice, guidance and re-assurance needed
Hi there, I'm very new to the forum and have read a few threads although can't find exact answers anywhere so please bare with me if this thread has been done to death. What it is, I am just starting a Health Sciences (Hons) Degree through the OU and its modules say that they are also part of the course for Paramedic science and some say they are featured in many medical degree courses too. My goal is to go on, and become a doctor. My current quals are 6 A-C GCSE's. No A-Levels and an asbestos awareness course ;D. I've seen GEP for medicine and direct entry but they all seem to require A-Levels. Which, I simply do ...

GAMSAT - Would you do it differently?
To those who have already taken the exam, if you were to do it all over again, would you chance anything? I'm hoping to sit the test in March, and will begin prepping properly in October (hopefully). I will already have covered pretty much all of the Biology in the form of A Level type study, and am pretty good at Essay writing. I plan on buying a few moral/ethics type texts to have a read through over the next few months which I hope will help with sections 1&2. I was going to spend the majority of time swatting up on Chemistry using khan Academy and AS/A Level textbooks, but I'm wandering if perhaps a better idea ...

In desperate need if advice re graduate medicine
Hi everyone, I'm a graduate with an arts degree. I was always quite interested in doing medicine when I was younger but never thought I was good enough and I ended up taking all arts subjects. I always thought it was impossible for me until last year when someone told me about graduate medicine programs. Since then I haven't been able to get the idea out my head! I graduated in 2012 and worked in a job I thought i wanted for a year but I soon realised that I absolutely cannot be in an office all day every day. So I moved abroad to teach english. This has been a great year but unfortunately my opportunities to gain experi...

Would you like to give us some feedback ?
Hi, Me and my wife got the idea this morning that we should start doing some explanation videos on youtube on medical issues. About us : my wife is in the final year at a university of medicine in Romania, she'll finish by the end of this year and become a junior doctor and I am in the 5th year, at the same university and in the first year in psychology. We both feel that we could learn better by explaining. How does everyone feel about this idea ? And second, what would be a good first theme ? Thank you all and good luck (Source: New Media Medicine)

My HCA job is zapping my enthusiasm
I've been working as a HCA on a surgical ward for around 2 months now and I must admit I find it draining. The work itself is physically demanding, manual handling, moving beds etc, and whilst HCAs play a vital role within the hospital, I find it very tedious. The night shifts are also pretty draining. On the positive side, it's been great experience learn a little about the specialty I work in & to work alongside the nursing staff. How do the other HCAs out there find it? Quite frankly I can't wait to quit (she says, 2 hours into a set of three nights)! (Source: New Media Medicine)

I'm back, again.
Hello all. I'm back....again. After working for 18 months as a HCA, and then getting rejections across the board following a first application to med schools, I doubted my ability to get a place at Med School, and subsequently started looking at other options. I got a job as a Physiotherapy Assistant, and to be honest, I've really enjoyed it. In fact, I enjoyed it so much I started an Access to Physiotherapy course with the intention to go on to do a Physio degree. HOWEVER, after starting the course, I got the medicine bug again. I was involved with a number of emergencies that got my blood pumping again, and made me re...

Time out after FY2
Hi All, I've been reading around a lot but i'm finding this all very confusing. I am soon to finish FY2 but have not applied for CT/ST training. I want to take a career break and do something totally non-clinical for the next 2-3 years, and then come back to medicine. My questions are: 1) Is this likely to look very bad on an application to specialty training? should i get pregnant 5th year or F1?
Hi everyone. I am not daft honestly. I had my first child in March of 3rd year, took 2 weeks off and waddled back to the hospital to commence my placements and passed the year comfortably. It was a difficult birth and took me a long time to recover but I did it! I also exclusively fed breast milk for 7 months (took my pump with me everywhere) so I know what hard work is believe me! We would definitely not want to leave it any later than F1 so our options are to start trying now and give birth Jan/Feb of 5th year, or hang on another year and give birth mid-F1. Doe...

In conclusion, let fear not be the driving force of decision making, but let strong convictions guide you like and arrow to its target. It took almost a whole life time but Mandela achieved an outcome that seemed impossible at the time. He held firm to his values and did not let fear wear him down. On the other hand negotiation might be useful when dealing with world powers who have a set agenda and pose potential threats. A compromise might result in less overall damage and could be one way of dealing with the situation peacefully. Paradoxically, this essay suggest negotiation can be a weakness and a strength.
