New Australian-Pacific scabies treatment has lasting results, study finds
(Murdoch Childrens Research Institute) Results of a two-year update of the world's first comparative trial of mass drug administration against scabies, show that the infection rate is still significantly down. The latest findings are published today in the New England Journal of Medicine.In 2012, the Murdoch Children's Research Institute, the Kirby Institute and the Fiji Ministry for Health, treated almost everyone on a remote Fijian island (716 people) with the oral anti-parasitic drug ivermectin. International experts call for action for world's 450 million scabies sufferers
(Murdoch Childrens Research Institute) An alignment of researchers, health ministries and the World Health Organization has outlined the steps to develop a global program to control scabies -- the parasitic disease affecting 450 million people annually in mainly low-income countries.
