Management of Intraocular Retinoblastoma: ICMR Consensus Guidelines
AbstractRetinoblastoma (RB) is the most common childhood intraocular malignancy. Delayed presentation due to a lack of awareness and advanced intraocular tumors are a common scenario in low-middle income countries (LMICs). Remarkable treatment advances have been made in the past few decades allowing globe salvage in advanced intraocular RB (IORB) including systemic chemotherapy with focal consolidation and targeted treatments like intraarterial chemotherapy and intravitreal chemotherapy. However, a lack of availability and affordability limits the use of such advances in LMICs. External beam radiotherapy, despite risk of s...

Troponin Elevation in Patients Undergoing Percutaneous Hepatic Perfusion for Metastatic Uveal Melanoma
CONCLUSION: Percutaneous Hepatic Perfusion is safe and associated with a transient, asymptomatic troponin elevation peri-operatively without major adverse cardiac events at 90 days. The observed troponin elevation is likely secondary to coronary demand-supply mismatch related to procedural hemodynamic shifts, hypotension, and anemia.PMID:38605434 | DOI:10.1177/10732748241246898 (Source: Cancer Control)

Recent advances in tyrosine kinase inhibitors VEGFR 1-3 for the treatment of advanced metastatic melanoma
Expert Opin Pharmacother. 2024 Apr 12. doi: 10.1080/14656566.2024.2342403. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Increasing evidence from preclinical and clinical studies suggests the role of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) signaling in melanoma progression, response to therapy, and overall survival. Moreover, the discovery of the potential involvement of the VEGF pathway in resistance to immunotherapy has led to new clinical trials with VEGFR inhibitors.AREAS COVERED: We have reviewed recent literature, mainly published within the last 5 years, on VEGFR-targeted treatments for advanced melanoma, including ...

Predictive model for iris melanoma
CONCLUSIONS: The predictive model provides direct diagnostic prediction of the lesion being iris melanoma expressed as probability (%). Use of a prediction calculator (app) can enhance decision-making and patient counselling. Further refinements can be undertaken with additional datasets, forming the basis for automated diagnosis.PMID:38609162 | DOI:10.1136/bjo-2023-324558 (Source: The British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Uveal melanoma cell lines Mel270 and 92.1 exhibit a mesenchymal phenotype and sensitivity to the cytostatic effects of transforming growth factor beta in vitro
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicate that UM cells are sensitive to the two arms of TGF-β signaling, which suggests that targeting the TGF-β pathway could be challenging in UM and would require a precise selection of patients in which only the prometastatic arm of TGF-β is activated.PMID:38601020 | PMC:PMC11006005 (Source: Molecular Vision)
