Immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced neurotoxicity is not associated with seroprevalence of neurotropic infections
CONCLUSION: Previous viral, bacterial and protozoal neurotropic infections appear not to be associated with the development of neurological irAEs in melanoma patients who underwent therapy with ICI across 3 countries. Further efforts are needed to unravel the factors underlying neurological irAEs in order to identify risk factors for these toxicities, especially with the increasing use of ICI in earlier stage disease.PMID:37606856 | DOI:10.1007/s00262-023-03498-0 (Source: Cancer Control)

High Epstein-Barr virus capsid antigen IgG level associates with the carriership of CD8+ T cell somatic mutations in the STAT3 SH2 domain
Clin Immunol. 2023 Aug 10:109733. doi: 10.1016/j.clim.2023.109733. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHigh carrier prevalence of STAT3 SH2 domain somatic mutations was recently discovered in CD8+ T cells. We found these low-allele-fraction clones in 26% of donors, without difference between multiple sclerosis (MS) patients and controls. Here we tested whether anti-viral antibodies associate with the carriership of these mutant clones. We compared antibody responses against common viruses in mutation carriers vs. non-carriers. Plasma samples of 152 donors (92 MS patients, 60 controls) were analyzed for antibodies against cytomeg...

Dengue virus serotype 2 genotype III evolution during the 2019 outbreak in Mato Grosso, Midwestern Brazil
Infect Genet Evol. 2023 Aug 4:105487. doi: 10.1016/j.meegid.2023.105487. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDENV-2 was the main responsible for a 70% increase in dengue incidence in Brazil during 2019. That year, our metagenomic study by Illumina NextSeq on serum samples from acute febrile patients (n = 92) with suspected arbovirus infection, sampled in 22 cities of the state of Mato Grosso (MT), in the middle west of Brazil, revealed eight complete genomes and two near-complete sequences of DENV-2 genotype III, one Human parvovirus B19 genotype I (5,391 nt) and one Coxsackievirus A6 lineage D (4,514 nt). These sequences share ...

Epidemiological characterization of viral etiological agents of the central nervous system infections among hospitalized patients in Egypt between 2016 and 2019
Virol J. 2023 Aug 2;20(1):170. doi: 10.1186/s12985-023-02079-y.ABSTRACTViral infections of the central nervous system (CNS) are common worldwide and result in considerable morbidity and mortality associated with neurologic illness. Until now, there have been no epidemiologic data regarding viruses causing aseptic meningitis, encephalitis, and CNS infections in Egypt. We investigated 1735 archived cerebrospinal fluid samples collected from Egyptian patients between 2016 and 2019 and performed molecular characterization for infection for12 different viruses: herpes simplex viruses 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2), varicella-zoster ...
