Drying-wetting cycle enhances stress resistance of Escherichia coli O157:H7 in a model soil
This study provides new insights into bacteria behavior under changing soil moisture and this may explain O157:H7 outbreaks following rainfall and flooding, as the dry-wet cycle promotes stress cross-resistance development.PMID:38648967 | DOI:10.1016/j.envpol.2024.123988 (Source: Environmental Pollution)

Cannabinoid Receptor Type 1 Activation Causes a Water Diuresis by Inducing an Acute Central Diabetes Insipidus in Mice
Am J Physiol Renal Physiol. 2024 Apr 18. doi: 10.1152/ajprenal.00320.2022. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCannabis and synthetic cannabinoid consumption is increasing worldwide. Cannabis contains numerous phytocannabinoids that act on the G-protein-coupled cannabinoid receptors type 1 (CB1R) and type 2 (CB2R) expressed throughout the body, including the kidney. Essentially every organ, including the kidney, produces endocannabinoids (ECs), endogenous ligands to these receptors. Cannabinoids acutely increase urine output in rodents and humans, thus potentially influencing total-body water and electrolyte homeostasis. As the ...

Agro-technologies for greenhouse gases mitigation in flooded rice fields for promoting climate smart agriculture
In this study, six treatments were employed, namely, farmer's practice (FP), recommended fertilizer dosage (RDF), direct seeded rice (DSR), intermittent wetting drying (IWD), use of efficient methanotrophs (MTH), and use of ammonium sulfate as a nitrogen source for real-time nitrogen management using leaf color chart, (AS). GHG flux was measured through the static closed chamber technique. Soil temperature, pH, and redox potential (Eh) and other soil physico-chemical and biological properties that have a potential role in GHG emission were also assessed. The lowest CH4 flux was observed in IWD treatment. The highest CH4 bu...

Preparation of pH-sensitive porous polylactic acid-based medical dressing with self-pumping function
In this study, we fabricated a pH-sensitive colorimetric chronic wound dressing with self-pumping function using electrostatic spinning technology. It consisted of three layers: a polylactic acid-curcumin (PCPLLA) hydrophobic layer, a hydrolyzed polyacrylonitrile (HPAN) transfer layer, and a polyacrylonitrile-purple kale anthocyanin (PAN-PCA) hydrophilic layer. The results showed that the preparation of porous PLLA fiber membrane loaded with 0.2 % Cur was achieved by adjusting the spinning-related parameters, which could ensure that the composite dressing had sufficient anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant prop...

Robust and stable superhydrophilic MIL-101 (Cr)-coated copper mesh for highly efficient oil/water emulsion separation
In this study, dip coating method was investigated to prepare superhydrophilic MIL-101 (Cr)-coated copper mesh for highly efficient oil/water emulsion separation. To increase the surface area of synthesized MIL-101 (Cr), a purification procedure was developed to remove unreacted H2BDC crystals present in the channel of the initial MIL-101 (Cr) sample synthesized. After that, a dispersing solution of MIL-101 (Cr) was needed to coat on the copper mesh. Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) was used as a binder in this procedure. The prepared membranes of M1 (once coated mesh) to M6 (six times coated mesh) were performed to separa...
