Advocacy for Unaccompanied Migrant Children in US Detention
During 2021, nearly 150,000 unaccompanied children (UCs) were apprehended at the US –Mexican border. This article presents the implementation model, advances, and challenges of TB social observatories. As of December 2021, 135 civil society organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean were included in the eight observatories. These are spaces that serve as platforms for social surveillance, policy advocacy, and social monitoring of national TB responses, in addition to contributing to ENGAGE-TB indicators related to TB case detection and support during treatment. It is recommended to consolidate and expand the existing observatories, with the participation of other countries in the LAC region.PMID:36320204 | PMC:PMC95...

Attitudes to adolescent pregnancy among families in the Dominican Republic and El Salvador: insights from a longitudinal study
Cult Health Sex. 2022 Oct 30:1-15. doi: 10.1080/13691058.2022.2137588. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOver the past few decades growing attention has focused on the perceived challenge of adolescent pregnancy and the need for girls to make 'smart choices'. This has generated considerable debate particularly because of the failure of many programmes and interventions to consider the structural constraints faced by young women in accessing sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Yet limited attention has been given to the views and experiences of girls' parents and caregivers, many of whom were often adolescent pare...

Circuit Rider post-construction support: improvements in domestic water quality and system sustainability in El Salvador
J Water Sanit Hyg Dev. 2014 Sep;4(3):460-470. doi: 10.2166/washdev.2014.136. Epub 2014 May 10.ABSTRACTSmall piped water supply systems are often unable to provide reliable, microbiologically safe, and sustainable service over time, and this has direct impacts on public health. Circuit Rider (CR) post-construction support (PCS) addresses this through the provision of technical, financial, and operational assistance to these systems. CRPCS operates in low and high-income countries; yet, no rigorous studies of CRPCS exist. We measured the impact of CRPCS on 'water quality' and 'sustainability' indicators (technical and admini...
