Vaccine advice for applicant
Hey everyone, I am starting a new medication for eczema and was advised by the pharmacist and dermatologist to get needed immunizations now because the medication is known to lower vaccine response. I realize that medical schools require stricter vaccine requirements than undergrad (for which I was compliant) and I'm wondering if it would be best to get those now before potentially matriculating in 2023. Do any medical students have a list of their requirements? I assume I'll need Tdap, a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is being replaced by mid levels a legitimate concern in peds?
So I’m a year into my first gen peds job and noticed 90% of my visits are standard sick visits like URI’s, UTI’s, stomach bugs, eczema etc, and the rest are well visits. I’m mostly providing reassurance and preventative care. Once in a while I get something odd, like a Kawasaki case or pneumothorax but it’s rare and often times I have to refer anything more complex because of limited time (we only have 10-15 minutes per patient) or it’s truly beyond my scope. We also have three experienced... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

managing eczema on the wards
I am a medical student starting on the wards in Janaury. I have moderate-to-severe eczema, and am worried about how continuous hand-washing and sanitizing will affect my skin. I was wondering if anyone in a similar situation had tips, recommended sanitizers/lotions/other products, or other thoughts. Especially with increased focus on sanitation during the COVID pandemic, I'm concerned that this will be a significant burden during my rotations. As further background, my eczema is currently... What's up with new pharmacy rules on non-narcotic scripts?
Multiple pharmacies have come out stating that they can't accept scripts that include designators like "drops" or "spray" and instead have to be converted to "milligrams" Also they can't accept scripts for designations like "bottle" or "tube" and have to have an exact milligram or gram designation. So when I write for a prescription steroid cream for eczema, I can't just write "tube" I have to look up how many grams are in each tube. Apparently 4 years of a pharmacy education isn't... CJD fears from anatomy lab
We were viewing cadavers and wet specimens including brain tissue. A used glove (touched the cadaver and specimens) was inside out and I went to put it on. My hands have eczema and I got scared that I could contract CJD from the used glove. I washed my hands after and told my professor. She said I should be fine since the cadavers are screened and are from the UCSF Willed Body Program. Then I told her I was more concerned about the specimens and she told me that they are also from the willed... CJD fears from anatomy lab (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Fingerprinting during STEP
Hey guys, Haven't posted in a while, but wasn't sure where to get this info--would really appreciate it if anyone knows what I should do/who I should contact. I have pretty severe eczema covering both of my hands, with dry skin peeling from all of my fingertips to the point that there is basically no fingerprint visible. I've heard that you need fingerprint identification to get in the test room for Step, and I've had issues with fingerprinting in the past. Should I contact the Prometric...
