Co-administration of the adjuvanted recombinant zoster vaccine with other adult vaccines: An overview
CONCLUSIONS: Co-administration of RZV with routine vaccines does not significantly alter the reactogenicity, immunogenicity or safety of RZV or the co-administered vaccine. Healthcare practitioners should consider routine co-administration of RZV with other adult vaccines to improve vaccination coverage.PMID:38423814 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2024.02.035 (Source: Herpes)

Cost-effectiveness analysis of pertussis booster vaccination for adolescents in Japan
CONCLUSION: The cost-effectiveness of replacing the DT vaccine with the DTaP vaccine is affected by the level of pertussis morbidity, with the ICER becoming more favorable in the high-morbidity case. The indirect effect has little impact on the ICER. Thus, policy-makers should continue to monitor the pertussis epidemic in the post-COVID-19 era, and determine the need to introduce a booster based on perceived trends.PMID:38418340 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2024.02.040 (Source: Vaccine)

WHO Issues First Recommendations for Managing Diphtheria
The World Health Organization (WHO) published the first guidance for the clinical management of diphtheria, a disease caused by a toxin-producing bacteria. Diphtheria often leads to symptoms including sore throat and difficulty breathing and is fatal in 5% to 10% of cases. (Source: JAMA - Journal of the American Medical Association)

Diphtheria case detection and carrier study of close contacts: A step towards diphtheria eradication
CONCLUSION: Present health statistics and this study suggests, fight against diphtheria in India is far from being over. It still lurks in some remote areas. It is a need to remain vigilant, keep tracing, and treating contacts to curtail down the rate of infection. In view of the resurgence, Government has given directives to replace TT with Td in UIP. Still, a lot needs to be done.PMID:38394413 | DOI:10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_265_23 (Source: Indian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology)

Immunogenicity at delivery after Tdap vaccination in successive pregnancies
ConclusionThis study reports for the first time Tdap-specific total IgG and IgG subclass levels and transfer ratios after repeated Tdap vaccination in successive pregnancies. We found reduced transfer of most Tdap-specific IgG and IgG1 antibodies in the successive pregnancy. As pertussis-specific antibodies wane quickly, Tdap vaccination in each pregnancy remains beneficial. However, more research is needed to understand the impact of closely spaced booster doses during pregnancy on early infant protection against pertussis. (Source: Frontiers in Immunology)

Toxicology, pharmacokinetics, and immunogenicity studies of CCR4-IL2 bispecific immunotoxin in rats and minipigs
In this study, we have performed non-GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) toxicology, pharmacokinetics, immunogenicity studies of CCR4-IL2-IT in both rats and minipigs. CCR4-IL2-IT demonstrated excellent safety profiles in both rats and minipigs. The maximum tolerated dose of CCR4-IL2-IT was determined as 0.4 mg/kg in both rats and minipigs. Complete blood count and chemistry analysis did not show significant difference for all measured parameters between the blood samples of pre-injection versus post-injection from the five-day toxicology studies of CCT4-IL2-IT in both rats and minipigs. Histology analysis did not show differen...

Disaster after disaster: the outbreak of infectious diseases in Pakistan in the wake of 2022 floods
Ann Med Surg (Lond). 2023 Dec 8;86(2):891-898. doi: 10.1097/MS9.0000000000001597. eCollection 2024 Feb.ABSTRACTIn June 2022, Pakistan witnessed catastrophic floods, affecting millions of people. The ensuing epidemics of cholera, cryptosporidiosis, rotavirus infections, generalized diarrhoea, typhoid and paratyphoid fevers, as well as the frequency of vector-borne diseases including malaria and dengue fever, are studied in this investigation. It also explores the latest outbreak of poliomyelitis and the frequency of respiratory diseases such COVID-19, diphtheria, and tuberculosis, as well as how floods have contributed to s...
