How Do Control Beliefs About Stress Relate to Depressive Symptoms in Chinese Healthcare Workers: The Mediating Role of Optimism and Cognitive Reappraisal
This study aims to investigate the relationship between control beliefs about stress and depressive symptoms among Chinese healthcare workers. Additionally, we aim to explore the mediating roles of optimism and cognitive reappraisal within this relationship. A total of 1326 Chinese healthcare workers completed a multi-section questionnaire. The results indicated that control beliefs about stress were negatively correlated with depressive symptoms and positively correlated with optimism and cognitive reappraisal. Furthermore, both optimism and cognitive reappraisal served as independent and serial mediators in the relations...

Multimodal mental state analysis
AbstractSelf-reports or professional interviews have typically been used to diagnose depression, although these methods often miss significant behavioral signals. Sometimes, people with depression may not express their feelings accurately, which can make it hard for psychologists to diagnose them correctly. We believe that paying attention to how people speak and behave can help us better identify depression. In real-life situations, psychologists can use different methods, like listening to how someone talks,  their body language and change in their emotions while talking. To detect signs of depression more accurately a...

Unraveling the Nexus between Overeducation and Depressive Symptoms in China: The Roles of Perceived Fairness of Earnings and Job Autonomy
This study utilized data from the China Labor-Force Dynamis Survey (CLDS) 2016 and China ’s 1% Population Sample Survey 2015 to explore the mechanisms linking overeducation to depressive symptoms and identify factors buffering the strength of this association. Employing causal inference methods, including instrumental variable regression and propensity score matching, we find a positi ve impact of overeducation on depressive symptoms. Mediation analysis shows that low personal income and perceived fairness of earnings act as mediators, aligning with perspectives of wage penalty and distributive justice within the context...

Predictors of adherence to a publicly available self-guided digital mental health intervention
This study aimed to analyze 3 years of user data from the public launch of an empirically supported 12-session self-guided DMHI, to assess overall program adherence rates and explore predictors of adherence. Data from 984 registered users were analyzed. Results showed that only 14.8% of users completed all 12 modules and 68.6% completed less than half of the modules. Users who were younger, had milder depression, had never seen a mental health provider, and who rejected signing-up for weekly program emails completed significantly more modules. Results add to concerns about the generalizability of controlled research on DMH...

Pro-Con Debate: Universal Versus Selective Continuous Monitoring of Postoperative Patients
Anesth Analg. 2024 May 1;138(5):955-966. doi: 10.1213/ANE.0000000000006840. Epub 2024 Apr 15.ABSTRACTIn this Pro-Con commentary article, we discuss use of continuous physiologic monitoring for clinical deterioration, specifically respiratory depression in the postoperative population. The Pro position advocates for 24/7 continuous surveillance monitoring of all patients starting in the postanesthesia care unit until discharge from the hospital. The strongest arguments for universal monitoring relate to inadequate assessment and algorithms for patient risk. We argue that the need for hospitalization in and of itself is a su...
