Efficacy of acupuncture (Jins three-needle) on motor symptoms and anxiety in patients with Parkinsons disease: protocol for a multicentre, randomised, assessor-blinded clinical trial
Introduction Parkinson’s disease (PD) has a significant impact on a substantial number of individuals in China. Notably, 31% of patients with PD also grapple with the additional burden of anxiety. This dual challenge of managing both PD and anxiety underscores the complexity of the condition and the diverse range of symptoms patients may experience. Considering the circumstances, the cost and potential drawbacks associated with traditional antiparkinsonian drugs become increasingly relevant. Acupuncture emerges as a significant non-pharmacological adjunct therapy. Offering a potentially safer and more cost-effective ...

Implications of vascular depression for successful cognitive aging in HIV Disease
AbstractAlthough older adults with HIV are at high risk for mild neurocognitive disorders, a subset experience successful cognitive aging (SCA). HIV is associated with an increased risk of vascular depression (VasDep), which can affect cognitive and daily functioning. The current study examined whether VasDep impedes SCA among older adults with HIV. 136 persons with HIV aged 50 years and older were classified as either SCA+ (n = 37) or SCA- (n = 99) based on a battery of demographically adjusted neurocognitive tests and self-reported cognitive symptoms. Participants were also stratified on the presence of vascular ...

Optimizing Sexual and Gender Minority Adolescent Health: Putting Evidence into Practice
Adolescents who identify as sexual and gender minorities (SGM) are at higher risk for adverse health outcomes compared to their cisgender and heterosexual counterparts (Cafferty et al., 2020; Stern, 2021). SGM adolescents are faced with stigma, homophobia, and heterosexism daily (Cafferty et al., 2020; Dowshen& Ford, 2019; Hagan et al., 2017; Shattuck et al., 2020). They are also more likely to: (1) engage in high-risk sexual activities, (2) self-medicate with illegal drugs, (3) attempt suicide, and defer healthcare (Boswell et al., 2019; Cafferty et al., 2020; Stern, 2021). Five-Factor Model Domains as Moderators of Treatment Outcomes in a Transdiagnostic Young Adult Sample
AbstractEmotion dysregulation is a transdiagnostic phenomenon. In evidence-based treatments for disorders involving emotion dysregulation, there are still many who do not achieve clinically significant gains. The primary goal of the present study was to examine the effect of personality on treatment outcomes in individuals experiencing symptoms of emotion dysregulation. Participants were involved in a randomized control trial, where they participated in one of two group therapy programs, dialectical behavioural therapy or positive psychotherapy (PPT). Hierarchical regressions were performed to examine the main effects and ...

The bidirectional association between premenstrual disorders and perinatal depression: A nationwide register-based study from Sweden
by Qian Yang, Emma Br änn, Elizabeth R. Bertone- Johnson, Arvid Sjölander, Fang Fang, Anna Sara Oberg, Unnur A. Valdimarsdóttir, Donghao Lu BackgroundPremenstrual disorders (PMDs) and perinatal depression (PND) share symptomology and the timing of symptoms of both conditions coincide with natural hormonal fluctuations, which may indicate a shared etiology. Yet, there is a notable absence of prospective data on the potential bidirectional association between these conditions, which is crucial for guiding clinical management. Using the Swedish nationwide registers with prospectively collected data, we aimed to investigate...

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Factors Related to Outcomes in Depression Among Youth with HIV
ConclusionsSpecific elements of the H&W CBT (e.g., dose, assignment of homework, greater skills practice, and use of booster sessions) were associated with improvement of depression outcomes in YWH. A focus on these elements in treatment may improve symptom reduction for YWH with depression. (Source: Cognitive Therapy and Research)

Commentary on the Article titled “Altered in vivo early neurogenesis traits in patients with depression: Evidence from neuron-derived extracellular vesicles and electroconvulsive therapy” by Xie et al.
One of the hottest themes in neurobiology now is small extracellular vesicles (sEVs), particularly their involvement in diagnostics [1]. One distinctive advantage of sEVs usage in this context is permeability of blood-brain barrier to the vesicles [2]. Neuronal sEVs entering the bloodstream can give some evidence of neurodegenerative disease, for example, Alzheimer's [3] well before clinical manifestations. Moreover, content of patients' neuron-derived sEVs may suggest mechanisms of psychiatric diseases [4]. (Source: BRAIN STIMULATION: Basic, Translational, and Clinical Research in Neuromodulation)

Catgut embedding in acupoints combined with repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis: study protocol for a randomized clinical trial
DiscussionCEA achieves brain-bone mass regulation through the bottom-up way of peripheral-central while rTMS achieves it through the top-down stimulation of central-peripheral. CEA combined with rTMS can stimulate the peripheral-central at the same time and promote peripheral bone mass formation. The combination of CEA and rTMS may play a coordinating, synergistic, and side-effect-reducing role, which is of great clinical significance in exploring better treatment options for PMOP.Clinical trial registration: https://www.chictr.org.cn/, identifier ChiCTR2300073863. Family Talk versus usual services in improving child and family psychosocial functioning in families with parental mental illness: a randomised controlled trial and cost analysis
ConclusionThe findings from this study, which was conducted within the context of a national programme to introduce family-focused practice in Ireland, demonstrate that FT is a low-cost intervention that improved child and family psychosocial functioning across different mental health disorders within routine adult, child and primary care mental health services. The findings contribute to the growing evidence base for FT, and provide a robust basis to inform practice and policy development for families with parental mental illness both in Ireland and elsewhere.Clinical trial registrationhttps://www.isrctn.com/ISRCTN1336585...
