DO graduate seeking teaching career
Hey guys. I just graduated from an osteopathic medical school in the US. Throughout medical school, I suffered from lots of anxiety and depression, and I decided this year that a career in medicine is not a right fit for me, so I did not apply to the match. I have been brainstorming multiple career options and after evaluating my goals and interests I realized that I had a passion for teaching. I taught multiple pre-med classes as a supplemental instructor in undergrad, did some tutoring for... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Secondary causes of depression
After reading a lot about neurometabolic disorders in depression, and cases of refractory patients that get better after an intervention like vitamin D or folate, I was wondering: 1) What are your go-to screening tests for depression? Is it worth it to quantify folate and B12 levels? What about testosterone on males or tests like DHEA suppresion? 2) I've read the CANMAT on supplements (Clinician guidelines for the treatment of psychiatric disorders with nutraceuticals and... Dismissed after being retaliated against....need advice
Hi everyone, I could really use some advice. I was dismissed by my medical school after being retaliated against. Long story short, I was put on LOA for previously-undiagnosed depression which created serious lapses in judgment. I was missing days, deadlines, tardiness, affected my performance on several rotations. I was given the opportunity to repeat the year, but made the big mistake of choosing to repeat one of my rotations at the same site I left ba ad impression the year prior. The... How to present this "life situation" to residency directors.
Here goes... Father of 2 children, one adolescent, one preteen, married for 17 years. Two weeks into the first clinical rotation of 3rd year my wife comes to me and states that her depression is bad enough to where she is considering checking herself into a mental hospital; MDD, GAD, PTSD originally diagnosed in 2020 and started on meds. I took an LOA starting in August 2022 to help her and the kids. During this time my two children were also struggling with mental health issues and seeing... PsyD or PhD with low GPA
Hello everyone, I am here on behalf of a friend of mine who wants to get a doctorate in psychology. He has a BA in history from a state college with a 2.6 GPA. He wants to become a psychologist but is not sure how to get there. He’s really interested in more of the assessment side than doing actual therapy but wouldn’t mind doing short term therapy. He’s also interested in the assessment of anxiety, depression and the integration of spirituality however he’s still open to other interests in... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

3.3 GPA, 500 MCAT, no extracurriculars/letters of rec
I've been suffering from OCD and major depression for six years. They've been making it difficult to feel motivated or do much. I've been getting lots of help, from antidepressants and therapy to ECT and TMS. But honestly, nothing has really worked. I still want to get into medicine. But my folder doesn't look great. Do you think I should go to another college and start all over again? Focus on improving my mental health? The thing is, I don't know when (or if) I'll ever feel better. I'm... Chronic Pain and the Differential Diagnosis of Mood Disorders
I need to get people's opinions on a differential diagnostic issue. Situation would be a patient with chronic pain who develops clinically significant depressive symptoms as a result (or, at least with the stress of the chronic pain contributing substantially to mood dysfunction). My contention would be that this would NOT be diagnosed as a 'Depressive Disorder Due to Another Medical Condition' but rather an Adjustment Disorder With Depressed Mood (or even MDD if full criteria for MDD are... Mental health history questions on hospital credentialing
Although data shows asking about mental health history is detrimental to physician well being and increases the likelihood of untreated physicians, somehow some hospitals still ask these questions and often add it in the same sentence as substance abuse and other illegal activities. People with very remote history of mild depression from a life event are required to answer yes to these questions opening them up for unfair scrutiny. Even thought the evidence shows asking these questions is... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Anyone know what % correct you need to pass comlex?
Took the test recently and it really cooked me. I had taken step a few days before and that thing was so hard I fell into a mini depression and could barely study other than a couple hours of OMM and truelearn practice problems in the days leading up to the exam. The exam felt like a fever dream and now I feel like I should probably still pass, but I think it might be tight if the cutoff truly is somewhere between 50-55% correct. I am really worried that I might have failed both Step and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
