Help! Failed 2 Classes
Title is self explanatory. Hi, I'm a P2 and I found out I failed 2 classes. I knew I failed one but didn't expect to fail another. I received an email regarding my academic standing and that my school will discuss with the committee regarding this. Most likely I might have to repeat my P2 year, which I really don't want to. Fortunately, they are allowing to provided a statement why I did this bad semester. Some background information I was recently diagnosed with depression and OCD which I... Thoughts on physician aid in dying for SPMI?
Curious as to your thoughts on if physician aid in dying (aka physician assisted suicide aka death with dignity) should be legal/ethical for people with SPMI—as a suicide researcher, I started out firmly in the “no” camp but have honestly moved towards the “yes” camp as I’ve moved through my career and gained clinical experience. If someone has a non-terminal chronic illness that has been through adequate treatment trials and their condition either hasn’t responded to tx or their residual... How would you help this type of patient?
I have a patient who is in his early 60s who has chronic severe PTSD and I think likely either borderline traits or borderline personality disorder. This patient doesn't have any suicidal ideation. No mania or psychosis. No depressive episode. The patient refuses to take medication for PTSD, and mistakenly says another physician has told him SSRIs will harm his heart and wont' accept education to the contrary. He won't even listen to that same physician. He will only take clonazepam 1mg PO... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Struggling
Hello, I am currently a sophomore pre-veterinary student and I am struggling. I did pretty well for my first year of undergrad last year finishing with a 3.57 GPA. This semester has been a different story however. In the first month of school I had an unexpected surgical procedure and I went into a big depression after. Long story short, I had to withdraw from my organic chemistry class and I am possibly going to fail two classes (philosophy and a communications class). In addition, I am... Chief resident position?
Hi all, I went unmatched cards this year and I am literally devastated and fighting depression at this point. I don't know what to do. I figured a chief resident year would be a fair option. I am unsure where to start looking for those positions though? I found 3 that are at hospitals without a cardiology fellowship which I think would not benefit me that well. I am literally running out of ideas and would appreciate any input on what to do and how to go about things. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

issues with failing classes, depression, and cannabis (substance abuse).
I am a medical student who has failed both my biochemistry and microbiology classes because I am battling with depression. I have been referred to the committee of student evaluation for this. Should I be open with them about my depression? From your experience, do providers with depression end up doing fine in med school and residency? An even bigger issue is that I recently got a cannabis possession and drug paraphernalia possession misdemeanor recently (my depression is driving my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How many doctors committed suicide last year?
One of my friends tried to discourage me from becoming a doctor by telling me that doctors have some of the highest suicide rates. I responded by telling them that the numbers are misleading. Because there are different types of physicians which require different kinds of work, stress, and time, you would have to separate the suicide rates of them all to get an accurate look at which of them actually has the highest suicide rate and then individually rank them next to the different... Therapy while on rotations?
MS-3, on core rotations now. Recently, I’ve noticed that I’m starting to exhibit signs of depression, and it’s really putting a damper on my quality of life. I’d like to start seeing a therapist before things get out of hand, but I don’t see how that would be possible when I have 10+ hour rotation shifts every day. My school doesn’t allow time off during rotations for anything other than medical emergencies, board exams, and deaths of immediate family members. I’m also reluctant to try to... Pediatric Board Exam 2021
How are you doing now after the Peds board exam last week? I am still feeling depressed because I feel I didn't do great. I had a lot of questions that I needed to choose between 2 choices, and most of them were wrong. I did Prep 2018-2020 (65-67% at first take) and Medstudy (70-71% at first take), and I had some confidence that I would do well...... I had a nightmare last night and I failed the board test in the nightmare. I cannot believe I need to get 70-75% correct, which is too high. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I am so f'ing depressed about choosing IM.
I just feel so sad and disappointed at being an IM intern. I have zero passion over the medicine I am practicing. I wish I went into a specialty that was more procedural to be honest, something like anesthesiology or even frankly Radiology. I already have sunk one year into this and will likely waste another year if I decide to reapply and at that point might as well finish residency...oh well...time go write another long ass note that is meant only for billing...
