Another new school …
The Governor of Georgia is seeking to push a dental school at Georgia Southern University. It seems that since most dentists aren’t taking Medicaid, the solution is to build a school and have students that are working for free treat this patient population. Thoughts? Programs after dental school
If you did not have good grades in dental school but want to specialize are there any programs you can do to try and make your application look better for residency programs? (ortho, omfs, endo)? What other advice would you have for someone who is trying to become more competitive but has finished DS? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Applying to Perio residency 4 years post school
Hello! I am currently finishing up my military obligation and I wanted to get some information about the application process to Perio residency. I completed an AEGD with the military and got experience during my first tour working alongside a periodontist in placing implants and doing soft tissue grafting which made me fall in love with the specialty. So I have the following questions/ thoughts that I would love some help on: I have also been moonlighting in a private practice for... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

TAMCOD vs. Texas Tech
Hello everyone, I’ve been fortunate enough to be accepted to Texas A&M College of Dentistry and Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine. I am having the hardest time deciding, here is a list of pros and cons of each: TAMCOD Pros: -established -diversity -tuition slightly cheaper Cons: -have heard students are lacking to reach clinical requirements -do not have family there -high cost of living WLHSDM Pros: -early clinical exposure -lots of modern dental technology -low cost of... Going to other state(s) after graduating as a specialist
In the process of picking schools. I don't want to practice in the state of the school I'll probably be attending and I want to hopefully specialize as an ortho. So I was wondering if specialists need to take new licensure exams (depending on what that state wants) like general dentists do? Or are they automatically approved by every single state? Loma Linda vs Utah (OOS)
CA resident. HPSP applicant (Navy) School 1: Loma Linda Pros: Good Reputation in SoCal (praised highly by dentists I shadowed) Could commute from home (~45min), making it overall cheaper than U of U since I wouldn't have living expenses. However, I don't know if this is reasonable for a dental student for 4 years. Cons: Bigger class size (100) Slightly more expensive. (397k compared to U of U 376k) Mandatory religion class and chapel? School 2... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Oral surgeons, how much/often do you take call after residency and does it significantly interfere with your lives outside of work?
Until recently, I was under the impression that the average oral surgeon could expect to take as much call as any other surgeon after residency (so much that it becomes an impediment to having a family, pursuing projects outside of work, getting enough sleep). I found out that while they almost always have to take call if they desire hospital privileges and board certification, it’s supposedly not enough to prevent them from having the relatively predictable schedule associated with other... Current tuition fees
Hello all. I’ve been practicing 20 years now. I am wondering why the current cohort of entering dental students are OK with the extra extra ordinarily high tuition fees of school versus income of a dentist? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
