Nuanced OMFS residency question
Hello everyone, I have some specific questions about applying to OMFS residency after dental school, any opinions would be appreciated! A little bit about my academic history as it is relevant to my questions: My undergrad GPA when applying to dental school was 3.3ish overall, science 3.0. I got in my first application cycle with one interview and one acceptance. I am now a D2 ranked top 15%, and am currently studying for the CBSE in July. After, I plan to start externing, and looking to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WAMC Canadian Applicant/Dentist for DO programs
Hey everyone! I'm looking to apply to DO programs this year. I was accepted to an Australian MD program last year, but didn't accept as I would like to stay closer to Canada. Aus MD is still my backup though. Looking for suggestions on how to improve my app (I'm working 50hours/week so time is certainly a constraint) and which schools I should focus on as a Canadian. 27M non-trad Education: BSc: cGPA of 3.98/4.00 Dental school (DMD): cGPA 3.78/4.00 Master of Education: Completed... Army AEGD value for Civilian Endo Application
Army dental HPSP student c/o 2026 here, I've got a quick question for those who have experience in this area: Do you think doing the 1 year AEGD is a major factor for getting accepted to a civilian residency right after doing my HPSP payback? I realize it's pretty key if I want a shot and in service endo residency, but how about civilian residencies? For context, I'm ranked 2/75 in my class, don't do a lot of extracurriculars, and am really enjoying spending time in the Grad endo clinic. Is... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Repeating OMS1 and OMS2 both - how grim is match looking?
Dentist here doing residency in peds, so I'm a little bit out of the loop but come from a place of relative understanding. My fiance (bf of 2.5 yrs before this) is going to repeat OMS2 after having already repeated OMS1. He wants to do psych, do programs look at this and see that he's repeated 2 years of school? How poorly does that reflect on him? And I guess more importantly, how can I be more supportive? Bc he's not happy with my responses and thinks I don't believe in him, but I'm more... 250k for AEGD - Foreign Trained - Thoughts?
Hi Everyone! I’m foreign trained and just got accepted at a 2 year tuition based AEGD. With cost of living it’s gonna be in the 250k range for the 2 years. On graduating, I’d be able to get licensed in most of the North east, parts of the Midwest and some of the south ( West coast through reciprocity). As of now my skillset encompasses implants (full mouth, GBR, lifts - applying for ABOI part 1 next year), some experience with aligners and comfortable with most wizzies. Decent at molar... Opinion: Heartland Dental School Will Be A SUPERIOR School
Here's a controversial opinion. What if Heartland's dental school will become the best and most sought after dental school to attend? Let's explore this. Heartland has a vested interest in teaching students how to become dentists with hopes that these dentists will work for Heartland. While most dental school's would prefer to pacify students with prophys and other nonsense, and prevent you from doing too many complex crown/bridge, implants, surgery, heartland wants these students to be able... Perio residency reviews?
I will be applying to perio programs this upcoming cycle and have started reviewing different programs. What is everyone's opinion about programs I should consider or even those I should stay away from? Location does not matter. I'm interested in more clinical experiences over research, multi-disciplinary treatment planning (prosth, ortho, etc), and strong faculty support. I found this old thread, but it may be outdated by now (2013): Perio Programs and applying (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Are there any fields one would be looked down upon for entering based on their nature?
Personally, I don't think anyone should be judged as a physician by anything other than their merit. But a recent tweet by Andrew Huberman talked about his skepticism regarding visiting a dentist with bad teeth. Does this same logic extend to medicine? Could one, for example, face challenges being judged by patients or colleagues as a bald dermatologist, or as an opthalmologist that wears glasses? Keep in mind I am merely considering the way things are, not as they should be. No one... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Career in medicine and disability insurance
Hello everyone, I am currently an undergraduate student highly interested in pursuing a career in either medicine or dentistry. However, I have been researching which one I want to pursue and I came across disability insurance which is something that never crossed my mind until recently. I have a history of health anxiety although I have never taken medication for it (I believe medication was prescribed to me, however, I never took it) and I recently had surgery for a nonchronic illness...
