Does anyone else hate telling people you're a pre-dent/pre-med ?
Am I the only one who avoids telling people my plans in college? I'm planning on majoring in cell bio but when people ask I just say bio so they don't think I'm some pompous nerd. The follow-up question is then "do you have any plans after college? Do you know what you want to pursue?" which I respond to with "oh I'm not sure yet; just testing the waters". At that point they usually think I'm an idiot; but I'm more comfortable with that then telling them I'm pursuing dentistry. With the... Cost of Dentistry
Is anyone appalled by the ridiculous tuition prices most of these dental schools have? Does anyone know why or how dentistry became such a expensive career? It's amazing to see and compare the prices of dental schools from 10 years back even 5 years back and how much it has increased. It's also very sad to see that a lot of kids will be discouraged to even try to apply to dental school due to the ridiculous prices. It is almost unbelievable to think that some people are going to be or are... Cost of Dentistry (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Any Dentists here teach at a College?
I am a non-traditional student, used to be a restaurant GM, taking the DAT next year, so I have quite some time before I even think about the things I would like to do after my journey concludes. My question is, do any of you teach part-time while working as a Dentist? If I'm not mistaken, most associate jobs require 4 days a week. I don't want to teach for any financial incentive, I just love talking to and teaching people. I would love to teach like an intro to College class or a Prep... Any Dentists here teach at a College? Bills in House and Senate that would lift ban on Physician Owned Hospitals
Did you ever wonder how outrageous it is that mechanics can own and profit from garages, lawyers from law firms, and dentists from dental clinics? Well, while we can't say for sure that former President Barack "Barry" Obama (PBUH) wondered about any of these things, he certainly did wonder about doctors owning hospitals, as evidenced by the fact he straight out outlawed them from doing so in 2010 as part of Obamacare. For this reason, many physicians find themselves in the unique position... Bills in House and Senate that would lift ban on Physician Owned Hospitals (Source: Student Doctor Network)

My heart says dentistry, my brain says no. What should I do so confused with my life
Dentist makes sense to me and it fits my personality which is an ISTJ, plus the ability to own your own practice and live your life they way you want is appealing. One of the major drawbacks for me is the amount of debt in dentistry. I was running the numbers and it would be a hard life. My chances for a cheap instate public school are slim so realistically most likely one of those expensive private schools. I also would like to live in So cal since thats where my family and friends live. If... My heart says dentistry, my brain says no. Anyone else in the 400k+ debt bandwagon after the 2016 cycle?
Well title says it all. I was an average applicant and took my state's private school (NYU) which costs around 400-430k and kinda stressed about. Anyone else dealing with similar numbers? I heard some people say they'd rather give up on dentistry than go into that level of debt so it's kinda leaving me wondering if it'll be worth it. Half of my mind says yes; the other half isn't so sure. I know there's a lot of options to start chipping away at this pain in the ass like NHSC, Aspen's loan... Will taking all the science prereqs at a CC hurt my chances of getting into dental school?
So I just graduated from a 4-year university with a 3.75 GPA and a B.S. in psychology. I have recently found an interest in dentistry and was looking to take all the science prerequisite classes at a community college. That being said, will taking those classes at a community college be frowned upon by dental schools? Also, if I apply to dental schools before I finish my prerequisites (but have them completed before dental school starts) would that also be something that is negatively viewed? Serious question, Why are you going to dental schools above 400K?
Why do y'all accept seats at schools that cost 400k+? I'm not criticizing your decision i just want to understand. I really like dentistry, but i feel like it is not worth being in crazy debt for the next 20 years?
