Hi! Has anyone done some observership/ preceptorship periods in order to get some US dental experience ( especially the non green card holders)....In particular, I'm interested in the Boston University one - International Preceptorship in General Dentistry. I'll keep it short. How did you choose OMS as your preferred field?
When I graduated high school, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life. I was in braces at that time. I ended up going to shadow a general dentist then took the plunge to get into dental school. I was a dental assistant in the meantime of getting in to dental school. When I got through dental school, I found out I didn’t enjoy much of general dentistry but I did enjoy the surgical aspect of dentistry, so I went to try to apply for oral maxillofacial surgery and didn’t get accepted. If I decide to go for med, what would be my best option in the meantime?
I graduated in May with a degree in Biology and a 3.77 cumulative and 3.73 science. My main plan has been dentistry throughout undergrad but I am considering changing that. Currently employed at just a retail job and trying to figure out what I want to do. So, if I decide for med I would start volunteering/shadowing and studying for the MCAT right now and continue working part time in the meantime. Is Pre-Dental right for me?
I am a high school senior and I have wanted to be a dentist for a while. However, I think going to college for pre-dental is a huge risk. I would major in biology, but the degree is useless if you don't make it into grad school. I do not know how I would stack up in college weed out courses. I feel like engineering is a much safer, but also much more boring route. I am basing the school I go to based on my major (VCU for pre-dental and UVA or VTech for engineering). I got an interview at a LECOM BA/DDS program; should I go?
This is my first post on SDN. I am a senior living in Northern Virginia and I applied to Gannon university's BA/DDS program with LECOM. I am positive I want to be a dentist. I applied on a whim because there were no application fees. I have a 1390 SAT (740 Math, 650 Reading). I have pretty good extracurricular and a 4.23 GPA. My question is that even if I got into the program, should I still go. Also, is it even worth flying to Florida with my parents just for an interview. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I've been working as a male dental assistant in a pediatric dental clinic for a little over a year now.
