New Job Offer, low % production being justified with high fees
Hello, I have been offered a job with a group that does very some niche dentistry with special needs patients, they also see very "healthy, wealthy" patients as well. The job will include non-service work to help market and grow the group. The job can also be very physically demanding (beyond typical private practice) as some patients are limited in changing positions, so it can be a lot of standing for hours or having to hunch over. The contract offer is : Independent contractor... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Future job outlook for Oral Surgeons
Hey guys. I’m a Dental student at UAB, and I am wondering what yalls thoughts are on the future job outlook and salary potential for oral surgeons With the rise of the “Super GP” dentist, and general dentists desiring to push into more surgical work like grafting, implants, and removing thirds, how do y’all expect this to affect referrals to and demand for oral surgeons. The path to surgery is very long and difficult, and I’m considering taking it, but do not want to put all the work in... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Dental match and licensure
I was talking to a few people in regards to match and obtaining a license or limited license prior to residency and wanted to ask about it here. If someone matches at a program where a limited license or full dental license is required prior to starting and finds out only after matching that they are not eligible for licensure and therefore not able to begin the program, having to then report to the program and the match that they have to withdraw, will that applicant be blacklisted from... Buy into the practice? Or stay an associate?
I just finished my first year out of a GPR as an associate for a private practice in a suburban area. I took home 230k pretax. I produce about 70k per month doing basic dentistry and a decent amount of oral surgery but no implants. Soon I’ll be placing my own implants and expect my production to increase. Recently the owner has been pressuring me to “get some skin in the game” and buy in. He suggested as little as 5%. The practice has one other associate with 5 hygienists and produces... Ohio (OOS) vs Tufts (OOS)
Hi guys! Im currently debating between the two. Any help would be MUCH appreciated Im from Canada, so I don't know much about American universities. OSU pros: cheaper tuition, two hours drive closer to home (Canada), and seems like there are more scholarships available! (have not received anything yet). Cons: safety concerns living in the city, non 24/7 ER, no shelter medicine program or wildlife program or exotics to my knowledge. Is dentistry in their curriculum?? Tufts pros... Failed DSO purchase
A local DSO is putting a portfolio of 50 practices together to sell to private equity. One large 4000sf practice with 6 ops didn’t make the cut. They had trouble staffing it wi the a doctor and as a result it only produced ~500k the last 3 years. When I started my search I wasn’t considering something like this but at 375k it would cost me less than startup. The office is built out well. Conventional wisdom says not to buy a failing practice but in this case, if I’m working the practice... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Dental Assistant in undergrad?
Hello, I was curious if it was possible to work as a dental Assistant as an undergrad to increase your chances of being accepted into dental school. I'm a freshman and college and was also interested if dentistry is still a good field to enter. I will possibly enter dentistry 10+ years from now. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Does med student "away" logic apply to externships?
Read this online: "People don’t realize that very few people actually match at their aways. You have to have every single person like you—residents and attendings—every single moment. Unless you’re a universally liked person like a Tom Hanks or Betty White, that’s almost impossible to do. One bad comment and you’re sunk. Most often they will choose that perfect person on paper over the imperfect person they got to know over the month." and people saying that when youre on an away the...
