Topical estrogen therapy ameliorates bladder estrogen receptor β expression in female patients with overactive bladder
CONCLUSION: Topical estrogen therapy ameliorates OAB in female patients, and this may be related to improved ERβ expression in the bladder mucosa.PMID:38186992 | PMC:PMC10767533 (Source: American Journal of Translational Research)

Indigo carmine dye for detecting urinary track damage during vaginal surgery
Eur J Obstet Gynecol Reprod Biol. 2023 Dec 28;293:142-145. doi: 10.1016/j.ejogrb.2023.12.027. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: Unrecognized ureteral and bladder injury increase morbidity and mortality in gynecologic surgery. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the efficiency of a systematic intra-venous (IV) injection of carmine indigo to detect bladder injury in gynecologic vaginal surgery for benign disease. The secondary objective is to analyze the cost and use of carmine indigo.STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective, monocentric study was conducted in a tertiary hospital between January 2018 and October 20...

Indigo carmine dye for detecting urinary track damage during vaginal surgery
Undetected ureteral and bladder injuries during gynecological surgery can results in morbidities and even death. During vaginal surgeries, detecting urinary track injuries can be difficult. The incidences of urinary tract injuries during hysterectomy for benign conditions with systematic cystoscopy have been reported. Vakili et al., [1] prospectively enrolled 471 women: ureteral injuries were observed in 1.7  % and bladder injuries in 3.6 %. Similarly, Ibeanu et al., [2] prospectively assessed 839 women: ureteral injuries were observed in 1.8 % and bladder injuries in 2.9 %. (Source: European Journal of Obstetrics,...

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 160: Cystoscopy Accuracy in Detecting Bladder Tumors: A Prospective Video-Confirmed Study
Conclusion: This trial underscores the underdiagnosis and undertreatment of bladder tumors within the current surveillance program. Additionally, aggressive malignant lesions may be overlooked, heightening the risk of disease progression. Therefore, it is recommended that cystoscopies be complemented by other diagnostic methods to ensure accurate diagnosis and proper patient treatment. Patient Summary: This study involved 316 patients who underwent video-recorded cystoscopies and subsequent follow-up. Of these patients, 181 initially exhibited no clinical signs of bladder cancer. However, upon reviewing the recorded cystos...
