Protective effects of functional foods against Parkinson's disease: A narrative review on pharmacology, phytochemistry, and molecular mechanisms
Phytother Res. 2022 Mar 4. doi: 10.1002/ptr.7425. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn Persian Medicine (PM), PD (brain-based tremor) is a known CNS disorder with several therapeutic and preventive options. In their medical textbooks and pharmacopeias, Persian great scientists such as Rhazes (854-925 AD), Avicenna (980-1037 AD), and Jorjani (1042-1136 AD), have discussed pharmacological and nutritional strategies for the prevention, slowing progression, and treatment of PD. In the present study, we surveyed plant- and animal-based foods recommended by PM for the prevention and treatment of CNS-related tremors. In vivo and in-v...

Molecules, Vol. 27, Pages 652: The Effect of Salvia hispanica and Nigella sativa Seed on the Volatile Profile and Sensory Parameters Related to Volatile Compounds of Dry Fermented Sausage
enzo
The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of Salvia hispanica and Nigella sativa seed addition on the volatile compounds and sensory characteristics (with particular emphasis on odor and flavor) of traditionally produced dry fermented sausages with reduced nitrites. Five different sausage formulations were prepared: control sample; samples with 1% and 2% addition of chia seed; samples with 1% and 2% addition of black cumin seed. The sausages were subjected to analysis including proximate chemical composition, volatile compound determination, and sensory analysis. The sausages with chia seed in the amounts o...

Nigellidine ( < em > Nigella sativa < /em > , black-cumin seed) docking to SARS CoV-2 nsp3 and host inflammatory proteins may inhibit viral replication/transcription and FAS-TNF death signal via TNFR 1/2 blocking
Nat Prod Res. 2021 Dec 22:1-6. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2021.2018430. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTissue damage occurs in COVID-19 patients due to nsp3-induced Fas-FasL interaction/TNF-related apoptosis. Presently, possible therapeutic-drug, nigellidine against was screened by bioinformatics studies COVID-19. Atomic-Contact-Energy (ACE) and binding-blocking effects were explored of nigellidine (Nigella sativa L.) in the active/catalytic sites of viral-protein nsp3 and host inflammatory/apoptotic signaling-molecules Fas/TNF receptors TNFR1/TNFR2. A control binding/inhibition of Oseltamivir to influenza-virus neuraminidase wa...

Serum levels of immunoglobulin and complement in UTI of patients caused by Proteus mirabilis and using AgNPs as antiswarming
This study reports the low-cost, green synthesis of AgNPs using the extract of clove and black seeds. The biosynthesized AgNPs were confirmed and characterized by analysis of the spectroscopy profile of the UV-visible spectrophotometer. The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the inhibitory effect concentration (MIC) of AgNPs, clove, and black cumin seed extracts on the growth and swarming of P. mirabilis. Clinical isolates of P. mirabilis were isolated from patients suffering from urinary tract infections. Thirteen types of antibiotics were used in the present study to detect their ability to inhibit P. mirabilis'...
