Utility of artificial intelligence for detection of pneumothorax on chest radiopgraphs done after transthoracic percutaneous transthoracic biopsy guided by computed tomography
CONCLUSIONS: The software has detected 100% of cases of pneumothorax in the postbiopsy chest radiographs. A potential use of this software could be as a prioritisation tool, allowing radiologists not to read immediately (or even not to read) chest radiographs classified as non-pathological by the software, with the confidence that there are no pathological cases.PMID:38642960 | DOI:10.1016/j.rxeng.2023.07.006 (Source: Radiologia)

Sex difference in the association of dietary fiber intake with visceral fat volume in Japanese adults
ConclusionWe observed a sex-specific association between dietary fiber intake and VFV in Japanese adults. This study suggests that efforts against visceral fat accumulation should take account of the source of dietary fiber. (Source: European Journal of Nutrition)

Epicardial Adipose Tissue Thickness and Preserved Ejection Fraction Heart Failure
AbstractPurpose of the ReviewPreserved ejection fraction heart failure and obesity frequently coexist. Whether obesity plays a consistent role in the pathogenesis of preserved ejection fraction heart failure is unclear. Accumulation of visceral adiposity underlies the pathogenic aftermaths of obesity. However, visceral adiposity imaging is assessed by computed tomography or magnetic resonance and thus not routinely available. In contrast, epicardial adiposity thickness is assessed by echocardiography and thus routinely available. We review the rationale for assessing epicardial adiposity thickness in patients with preserve...

Intracranial extra-axial chondromas: clues to computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging diagnosis
ConclusionThe imaging appearances of frontal extra-axial chondromas and cavernous sinus chondromas may have different imaging appearances. Although there is a wide range of imaging findings, the absence of restricted diffusion, perifocal edema, enhancement, and presence of low signals on T1-weighted MR images in a well-circumscribed calcified extra-axial mass should suggest an intracranial chondroma. A report of fifty cases with incidental diagnosis of anomalous origin of the right coronary artery from the left sinus of Valsalva
Anomalous origin of the right coronary artery from the left sinus of Valsalva (R-ACAOS) is a relatively rare condition that can potentially lead to devastating outcomes. The current study aims to investigate the cardiac-related disorders among patients with incidental R-ACAOS diagnosis through computed tomography angiography (CTA). Baseline parenchymal blood volume is a potential prognostic imaging biomarker in patients with malignant liver tumors treated with transarterial chemoembolization
ConclusionOur study reveals a noteworthy correlation between high initial PBV values and a significant reduction in both relative and absolute tumor volume. This association suggests a potential prognostic indicator, indicating that elevated PBV may signify a more favorable response to transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). Additionally, patients with high initial PBV values experienced an extended overall survival time. Notably, the subgroup analysis highlighted a prolonged survival time in the HCC group with elevated initial PBV values. These findings underscore the potential significance of assessing PBV as a predictiv...

Bone mineral density, turnover, and microarchitecture assessed by second-generation high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography in patients with Sheehan ’s syndrome
ConclusionLow areal BMD (aBMD) is highly prevalent in SS as compared to age- and BMI-matched controls. However, there were no significant differences in bone microarchitectural measurements, except for tibial cortical vBMD, which was lower in adequately treated SS patients. Assessment of maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressures in skeletal Class II patients with different growth patterns
CONCLUSIONS: Although Class I patients displayed significantly greater oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airway volumes, there was no significant difference in respiratory muscle strength or airway function between Class II patients with different growth patterns and the Class I control group. The findings underscore the significance of exploring factors beyond craniofacial growth patterns that may contribute to sleep-related breathing disorders.PMID:38639454 | DOI:10.2319/071723-496.1 (Source: The Angle Orthodontist)

Pixel-by-pixel correction of beam hardening artifacts by bowtie filter in fan-beam CT
Phys Med Biol. 2024 Apr 19. doi: 10.1088/1361-6560/ad40fa. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBeam hardening (BH) artifacts in computed tomography (CT) images originate from the polychromatic nature of X-ray photons. In a CT system with a bowtie filter, residual BH artifacts remain when polynomial fits are used. These artifacts lead to worse visuals, reduced contrast, and inaccurate CT numbers. This work proposes a pixel-by-pixel correction (PPC) method to reduce the residual BH artifacts caused by a bowtie filter.
Approach: The energy spectrum for each pixel at the detector after the photons pass through the bowtie fil...
