An interactive method based on multi-objective optimization for limited-angle CT reconstruction
Phys Med Biol. 2024 Mar 22. doi: 10.1088/1361-6560/ad3724. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLimited-angle X-ray computed tomography (CT) is a typical ill-posed inverse problem, leading to artifacts in the reconstructed image due to the incomplete projection data. Most iteration CT reconstruction methods involve optimizing for a single object. This paper explores a multi-objective optimization model and an interactive method based on multi objective optimization to suppress the artifacts of limited-angle CT.
Approach: The model includes two objective functions on dual-domain within data consis tency constraint. In the ...

Triage tools for detecting cervical spine injury in paediatric trauma patients
CONCLUSIONS: There is insufficient evidence to determine the diagnostic test accuracy of CDRs to detect CSIs in children following blunt trauma, particularly for children under eight years of age. Although most studies had a high sensitivity, this was often achieved at the expense of low specificity and should be interpreted with caution due to a small number of CSIs and wide CIs. Well-designed, large studies are required to evaluate the accuracy of CDRs for the cervical spine clearance in children following blunt trauma, ideally in direct comparison with each other.PMID:38517085 | PMC:PMC10958760 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD...

Prevalence and risk factors for chronic pulmonary aspergillosis in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients with acute exacerbations
This study aimed to assess the prevalence of chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA) in COPD patients with acute exacerbations and identify associated risk factors. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research from January 2021 to June 2022. Sixty-one COPD patients presenting with acute exacerbations were included. Demographic details, blood investigations, and sputum examinations were performed for all patients. A high-resolution computed tomography thorax was conducted for eligible patients. The prevalence of CPA among patients with an acute ex...

Incidence and risk factors of heterotopic ossification after cervical Baguera C disc arthroplasty
CONCLUSIONS: The HO incidence after CDA was correlated with the residual length of endplate coverage and inferior AREE. Additionally, the AREE and kyphotic postoperative FSU angle in the flexion position were associated with HO grade progression. Patients with HO also showed a trend of lower range of motion at 1 month after surgery. Using an adequately sized implant and encouraging neck motion may help prevent HO development and progression.PMID:38518295 | DOI:10.3171/2024.1.SPINE23744 (Source: Journal of Neurosurgery.Spine)

Navigating diagnostic challenges: imaging strategies for herpes simplex encephalitis in resource limited settings: A case report
Radiol Case Rep. 2024 Mar 13;19(6):2183-2187. doi: 10.1016/j.radcr.2024.02.060. eCollection 2024 Jun.ABSTRACTEncephalitis refers to the inflammatory condition affecting the brain parenchyma, leading to various neurological impairments. It can have various causes: infectious, postinfectious, and noninfectious origins. In this case, we present a 76-year-old man who presented to the emergency room with complaints of headache and behavioral changes. Initially, a Computed Tomography (CT) scan raised suspicion of herpes simplex encephalitis and prompted the initiation of treatment. Subsequently, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) ...
