Computed Tomography-Based Body Composition is Related to Perioperative Morbidity in Older Lung Transplant Recipients
Conclusion Body composition parameters determined in pretransplant chest CT scans in older LTx candidates might aid in identifying high-risk patients with a worse perioperative outcome after LTx. Cerebellar blood perfusion is a diagnostic, but not a prognostic, marker for parkinsonian-dominant type multiple system atrophy.
Multiple system atrophy (MSA) is clinically characterized by various neurological symptoms. According to the diagnostic criteria, MSA is classified into parkinsonian-dominant type (MSA-P) or cerebellar ataxia-dominant type (MSA-C) based on the predominant signs displayed. Recently, N-isopropyl-p-[123I] iodoamphetamine (123I-IMP) single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), a radiological examination evaluating brain perfusion, has been successful in detecting cerebellar hypoperfusion in MSA-P patients, demonstrating its utility in the early detection of cerebellar dysfunction. Performance changes due to differences among annotating radiologists for training data in computerized lesion detection
ConclusionsAlthough the performance of the CAD software after retraining varied among the annotating radiologists, no direct correlation with their experience was found. The performance trends differed according to the type of CAD software used when integrated annotations from multiple radiologists were used. Comparison of [18F]FDG and [68  Ga]pentixafor PET/CT in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma
Conclusions[68 Ga]pentixafor is a promising imaging tracer for detecting primary and metastatic NPC. [68 Ga]pentixafor PET/CT is comparable to [18F]FDG PET/CT in the detection rate of primary tumors and metastatic cervical lymph nodes in nasopharyngeal carcinoma, but [68 Ga]pentixafor uptake was heterogeneous. [68 Ga]pentixafor PET/CT may help select patients most likely to benefit from CXCR4-directed endoradiotherapy.Clinical trial registration No.: ChiCTR2200065902 (Source: Molecular Imaging and Biology)

ESR Essentials: imaging in stable chest pain – practice recommendations by ESCR
AbstractStable chest pain is a common symptom with multiple potential causes. Non-invasive imaging has an important role in diagnosis and guiding management through the assessment of coronary stenoses, atherosclerotic plaque, myocardial ischaemia or infarction, and cardiac function. Computed tomography (CT) provides the anatomical evaluation of coronary artery disease (CAD) with the assessment of stenosis, plaque type and plaque burden, with additional functional information available from CT fractional flow reserve (FFR) or CT myocardial perfusion imaging. Stress magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear stress myocardial perfu...

Osteoblastoma of the frontal sinus: A rare case presenting with seizures and pneumocephalus
We present a case of osteoblastoma located in the frontal sinus, an exceptionally uncommon site, resulting in seizures secondary to pneumocephalus. A 21-year-old male presented with a generalized tonic –clonic seizure and postictal confusion. Imaging studies revealed a well-defined lesion in the left frontal sinus causing cortical breach, destruction of the posterior wall, and pneumocephalus. A total surgical excision was performed through bifrontal craniotomy. Histopathological analysis confirm ed the diagnosis of osteoblastoma. Postoperative recovery was uneventful, with a follow-up CT scan showing complete lesion exci...

Collapse of zone 0 landing TEVAR (Najuta) and the development of higher brain dysfunction
J Cardiovasc Surg (Torino). 2024 Apr 15. doi: 10.23736/S0021-9509.24.12982-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlthough thoracic endovascular repair (TEVAR)-specific complications often develop, stent-graft collapse is a rare, but fatal complication that requires attention. A 62-year-old male underwent TEVAR for a saccular distal arch aortic aneurysm. After the placement of the Gore TAG (W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc., Newark, DE, USA) from zones 2 to 4, a Najuta endograft (Kawasumi Laboratories, Inc., Tokyo, Japan) was deployed from zone 0. Neither intraoperative angiography nor postoperative contrast-enhanced computed to...

Instrumented L5-S1 interbody graft with IFUSE implant using the reverse Bohlman technique
We present the case of a 38-year-old woman with L5S1 interbody pseudarthrosis after posterior fixation for grade 2 L5-S1 spondylolisthesis with isthmic lysis of L5, and that of a 69-year-old woman who underwent a posterior T4 fusion to the pelvis for degenerative scoliosis. Both required a trans-lumbosacral instrumented fusion via an anterior approach using the reverse Bohlman technique. Surgical technique was described.RESULTS: There were no perioperative or postoperative complications. At 6 months, the patients reported a decrease in lumbar and radicular symptomatology. There were no infectious, neurological or vascular ...

Fractured cervical spine, dissected vertebral artery, and life-threatening stroke: A challenging case report and literature review
CONCLUSION: Rapid management of patients with dramatic clinical presentation can lead to full recovery. Implications include a systematic screening of blunt trauma VAI through computed tomography angiography when dealing with high-risk cervical spine fractures; patients harboring both a cervical spine fracture and a VAI must be transferred to a tertiary referral hospital able to deal both with strokes and cervical spine surgery to ensure responsiveness in case of stroke.PMID:38621474 | DOI:10.1016/j.neuchi.2024.101561 (Source: Neuro-Chirurgie)

Establishment and verification of a prediction model based on clinical characteristics and computed tomography radiomics parameters for distinguishing benign and malignant pulmonary nodules
CONCLUSIONS: The clinical-radiomics nomogram combined of CT-based radiomics signature, along with CYFRA21-1 and CEA, demonstrated strong predictive ability, calibration, and clinical usefulness in distinguishing between benign and malignant pulmonary nodules. The use of CT-based radiomics has the potential to assist clinicians in making informed decisions prior to biopsy or surgery while avoiding unnecessary treatment for non-cancerous lesions.PMID:38617763 | PMC:PMC11009598 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1400 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)
