Cryotherapy for oral potentially malignant disorders
Bioinformation. 2023 Dec 31;19(13):1377-1382. doi: 10.6026/973206300191377. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTFour surgical treatment modalities namely cryosurgery, scalpel and blade surgery, diode LASER surgery and CO2 LASER surgery in the management of oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) in terms of healing outcomes post operatively and recurrence is evaluated. The study included sixty outpatients whose biopsies revealed OPMDs (oral lichen planus, homogeneous leukoplakia, non-homogenous leukoplakia and erythroplakia). There is decrease in post-operative pain and oedema in all four treatment categories at one week follow ...

Randomized controlled trial of compressive cryotherapy versus standard cryotherapy after total knee arthroplasty: pain, swelling, range of motion and functional recovery
After total knee arthroplasty (TKA), patients have limited knee range of motion (ROM), trophic changes and pain. Cryotherapy and compression are recommended in the literature, but no study has shown that cryot... (Source: BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders)

Primary Subretinal Seeding in Retinoblastoma: Clinical Presentation and Treatment Outcomes
CONCLUSION: Primary SRS pose a therapeutic challenge during RB treatment. The SRS responds moderately to systemic IVC, with one-third cases showing SRS recurrence and one-fifth ultimately requiring enucleation.PMID:38376084 | PMC:PMC10821785 | DOI:10.1159/000530497 (Source: Cancer Control)

Primary invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the nipple in an adult male: A case report and brief review of literature
Indian J Pathol Microbiol. 2024 Jan-Mar;67(1):145-148. doi: 10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_445_23.ABSTRACTThis is a case report of a rare and uncommon primary invasive squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the nipple in a male patient. The patient presented with an ulcerated growth over the left nipple for the last 20 years, which progressed over the last 6 months. He underwent wide local excision with level II axillary lymph node dissection, and one out of 42 lymph nodes harvested showed metastatic deposit. The patient was planned for follow-up with no adjuvant treatment, and had no evidence of local-regional or distant recurrence at 24 mo...

A Rare Case of Varicella Zoster Infection in Hemorrhoids in a Patient With Inflammatory Bowel Disease
We present a case of a 41-year-old man with a history of ulcerative colitis on adalimumab who presented with anal lesions. He was diagnosed with hemorrhoids and surgically treated. Microscopic examination confirmed the diagnosis of hemorrhoids. However, foci of epithelium with viral cytopathic effects were noted. A varicella zoster virus (VZV)-specific immunostain was positive in the areas of interest confirming the diagnosis of the VZV infection limited to the hemorrhoids. Combined herpes simplex virus type 1 and 2 (HSV 1 and HSV 2) immunostain was also performed and was negative. Anal herpes has been widely described in ...

Effects of 6 weeks of cryotherapy plus compression therapy after total or unicompartmental knee arthroplasty: protocol for a single-centre, single-blind randomised controlled trial
This study aims to assess the effects of 6 weeks of cryotherapy plus compression therapy on pain, functioning and patient satisfaction after TKA or UKA. Methods and analysis A single-centre, single-blind randomised controlled trial will be conducted at a teaching hospital in the Netherlands. Patients over age 18 with end-stage osteoarthritis planned for a TKA or UKA are eligible; 104 UKA and 104 TKA patients will be included. Both groups will be randomly allocated (1:1) into an intervention group receiving 6 weeks of cryotherapy plus compression therapy (commencing after discharge from hospital) or a control group (usual ...
