Portable MRI to assess optic chiasm decompression after endoscopic endonasal resection of sellar and suprasellar lesions
CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study suggest that resolution of pMRI is comparable to that of conventional MRI in assessing the optic chiasm position in relation to the third ventricle. Portable MRI sufficiently demonstrates decompression of the optic chiasm after endoscopic endonasal surgery. It can be an alternative strategy in cases in which cost, scan-time considerations, or lack of intraoperative MRI availability may preclude the ability to assess adequate optic nerve decompression after endoscopic endonasal surgery for sellar and suprasellar lesions.PMID:37347618 | DOI:10.3171/2023.5.JNS23174 (Source: Journal of Neurosurgery)

The psychological impact of adult-onset craniopharyngioma: A qualitative study of the experience of patients and clinicians
CONCLUSIONS: Patients and clinicians recognised significant psychological impact as a result of AoC, and these impacts contributed to overall poorer quality of life. Crucially, both parties also felt that further research into psychological impact of AoC was both interesting and useful.PMID:37321130 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejon.2023.102346 (Source: European Journal of Oncology Nursing)

Characteristics and factors influencing hypothalamic pituitary dysfunction in patients with craniopharyngioma
ConclusionSurgical treatment significantly aggravated HPD in both the ACP and PCP groups, but the specific characteristics and risk factors leading to aggravation were different between the two groups. (Source: Frontiers in Endocrinology)

Association between birth characteristics and incidence of pituitary adenoma and craniopharyngioma: a registry-based study in California, 2001 –2015
ConclusionIn this large, population-based study, female sex, older maternal age, higher maternal education, and Hispanic ethnicity and Black race compared to non-Hispanic White race, were associated with an increased risk of PA in children and young adults. (Source: Cancer Causes and Control)

Clinical and imaging findings for the evaluation of large Rathke ’s cleft cysts and cystic craniopharyngiomas
ConclusionsLRCCs can be differentiated from CCPs based on their clinical and imaging findings, especially their specific anatomical growth patterns. We suggest using the pretreatment diagnosis to select the appropriate surgical approach and thus improve the clinical outcome. Keywords: Rathke ’s cleft cyst, craniopharyngioma, sellar mass, magnetic resonance imaging. Expression of S100A9 in adamantinomatous craniopharyngioma and its association with wet keratin formation
In conclusion, the present study showed that S100A9 was upregulated in ACP and may be closely associated with wet keratin formation and the infiltration of inflammatory cells in ACP.PMID:37206553 | PMC:PMC10189609 | DOI:10.3892/etm.2023.11981 (Source: Experimental and Therapeutic Medicine)

Clinical and oncological outcomes in single-stage versus staged surgery for pediatric craniopharyngiomas: a multicenter retrospective study
ConclusionsIn pediatric CPGs ’ surgical radicality and timing of intervention should be tailored considering both anatomical extension and hypothalamic–pituitary function. In selected patients, a staged approach offers a safer and more effective disease control, preserving psychophysical development. (Source: Journal of Endocrinological Investigation)
