Therapeutic potential of ramipril, losartan, and spironolactone against sepsis-associated liver tissue injury induced by cecal ligation and puncture in rats
CONCLUSIONS: Administration of ramipril, losartan, or spironolactone after CLP produced a hepatoprotective effect in rats, possibly by reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis.PMID:38497865 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202403_35596 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

A design of experiment based RP-HPLC method for the simultaneous estimation of antihypertensive drugs with greenness assessment
Anal Sci. 2024 Mar 11. doi: 10.1007/s44211-024-00538-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe correlation between blood pressure (BP) and cardiovascular risk has a continuous, positive, and linear pattern. Lowering high BP decreases the risk associated with cardiovascular disease. Chlorthalidone (CHD) and Losartan potassium (LOS) combination is used to treat hypertension. The analytical community was concerned with minimizing or reducing the use of toxic chemicals and solvents. Therefore, the current study aimed to develop a rapid, sensitive, and cost-effective green RP-HPLC method to determine CHD and LOS simultaneously in a ...

Co-activation of Mas and pGCA receptors suppresses endothelin-1-induced endothelial dysfunction via nitric oxide/cGMP system
CONCLUSION: Co-activating Mas and pGCA receptors with DAP mitigates vascular damage and enhances endothelial function, emphasizing its potential to maintain a delicate balance between vasodilatory NO and vasoconstrictor ET1 in endothelial dysfunction.PMID:38462025 | DOI:10.1016/j.bbadis.2024.167110 (Source: Biochimica et Biophysica Acta)

Mitochondrial K < sub > ATP < /sub > channel-mediated autophagy contributes to angiotensin II-induced vascular dysfunction in mice
CONCLUSIONS: Our present findings evidence that mitochondrial KATP channel-mediated autophagy contributes to Ang II-induced vascular dysfunction, development of hypertension, and atherosclerosis.PMID:38418351 | DOI:10.1016/j.numecd.2024.01.019 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Severe Hypercalcemia Caused by Calcium-Alkali Syndrome after 15  Years of Postoperative Hypoparathyroidism in a Patient with Undiagnosed Hyperaldosteronism
CONCLUSION: Although seldom described, the calcium-alkali syndrome is an expected complication for individuals with postoperative hypoparathyroidism, as they require lifelong calcium and vitamin D supplementation. This case also shows the importance of hydrochlorothiazide use and primary aldosteronism as possible triggers of life-threatening hypercalcemia.PMID:38404648 | PMC:PMC10890900 | DOI:10.1155/2024/3067354 (Source: Cancer Control)

Human Soluble Prorenin Receptor Expressed in Mouse Renal Collecting Duct Show Sex-Specific Effect on Cardiorenal Function
Am J Physiol Renal Physiol. 2024 Feb 22. doi: 10.1152/ajprenal.00375.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSoluble prorenin receptor (sPRR), a component of the renin angiotensin system (RAS), has been identified as a plasma biomarker for hypertension and cardiovascular diseases in humans. Despite studies showing that sPRR in kidney is produced by renal collecting duct (CD) tubular cells, its biological actions modulating cardiorenal function remains unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to create a new murine model to investigate how expressing human sPRR (HsPRR) in CD influence the intrarenal RAS status and renal hemodynamic...
