Early thrombus formation including hypo-attenuated leaflet thrombosis after surgical bioprosthetic aortic valve replacement
ConclusionHALT was observed in one-fifth of the cases after surgical aortic valve replacement during the very early postoperative phase in an institution wherein administration of continuous heparin infusion after surgery is a standard practice. HALT did not affect the early prognosis or incidence of cerebral infarction. (Source: General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery)

Protocol for a randomised controlled trial comparing warfarin with no oral anticoagulation in patients with atrial fibrillation on chronic dialysis: the Danish Warfarin-Dialysis (DANWARD) trial
Introduction Atrial fibrillation is highly prevalent in patients on chronic dialysis. It is unclear whether anticoagulant therapy for stroke prevention is beneficial in these patients. Vitamin K-antagonists (VKA) remain the predominant anticoagulant choice. Importantly, anticoagulation remains inconsistently used and a possible benefit remains untested in randomised clinical trials comparing oral anticoagulation with no treatment in patients on chronic dialysis. The Danish Warfarin-Dialysis (DANWARD) trial aims to investigate the safety and efficacy of VKAs in patients with atrial fibrillation on chronic dialysis. The hypo...

Association Between NAD(P)H Quinone Oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) Gene Methylation/Expression and Bleeding Incidence Among an Iranian Population Undergoing Warfarin Therapy
AbstractIncreased bleeding tendency is a common and challenging complication of warfarin therapy which results in extensive pharmacogenomic studies in order to develop a personalized dosing approach and minimize the risk of related side effects. Here we aimed to explore the potential role of NQO1 gene expression in warfarin response in a group of Iranian patients. We also evaluated the NQO1 promoter methylation and its association with mRNA expression. A total of 87 patients on warfarin therapy including 34 cases with drug-induced bleeding events and 53 matched controls without bleedings were included in the study. The exp...

Diabetes mellitus in patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction: a post hoc analysis from the WARCEF trial
In conclusion, we found that DM is common in HFrEF patients, and is associated with other cardiovascular comorbidities and risk factors, and with a worse prognosis. (Source: Internal and Emergency Medicine)

A ten-year comparison of treatment and outcomes of cancer-associated thrombosis to non-cancer venous thromboembolism: from traditional anticoagulants to direct oral anticoagulants
This study demonstrated no significant differences in complication rates for CAT patients treated with DOAC s over enoxaparin, suggesting that DOACs can be safely used in most cases of CAT. (Source: Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis)
