Comment on: ''Analysis of Spanish vocational radiographers' education through clinical training and perceptions of core subject teachers: A survey''
As a radiographer from Costa Rica, working in a Spanish Hospital, I find the current Spanish situation regarding the academic education and training worrisome. The recently published article by Gonz ález et al.1 is really clarifying on the current situation, it opens the actual panorama from an historical contextualisation. However, I have some concerns that I wish to convey with all due respect. (Source: Radiography)

Mechanisms of low susceptibility to the disinfectant benzalkonium chloride in a multidrug-resistant environmental isolate of Aeromonas hydrophila
In this study, we isolated a less-susceptible strain of Aeromonas hydrophila to BAC, designated as INISA09, from a wastewater treatment plant in Costa Rica. We characterized its phenotypic response upon exposure to three different concentrations of BAC and characterized mechanisms related to its resistance using genomic and proteomic approaches. The genome of the strain, mapped against 52 different sequenced A. hydrophila strains, consists of approximately 4.6 Mb with 4,273 genes. We found a massive genome rearrangement and thousands of missense mutations compared to the reference strain A. hydrophila ATCC 7966. We identif...

Hundreds of new primate genomes offer window into human health —and our past
Humans have long seen themselves mirrored in other primates, with apes’ social behavior and cognitive abilities shedding light on our own. Now, two international teams have stared deeper into the mirror. By sequencing the genomes of more than 200 nonhuman primates, from palm-size mouse lemurs to 200-kilogram gorillas, they have come up with clues to human health and disease, and to the origin of our species. The genomes and their analyses , reported today in Science and Science Advances , represent a massive effort involving more than 100 researchers from about 20 countries who braved ...

EE540 Budget Impact of Anti-Inflammatory Reliever Therapy with Budesonide-Formoterol Combination in the Treatment of Mild Asthma in Costa Rica
Asthma is a heterogeneous disease characterized by airway inflammation. Daily inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) plus short-acting beta-agonist (SABA) as a reliever is the standard of care (SoC) in Costa Rica for mild asthma. Anti-inflammatory reliever (AIR) therapy with budesonide –formoterol (Bud-Form) as needed is as effective as ICS monotherapy plus SABA as a reliever in reducing oral corticosteroid use, emergency room (ER) visits and hospitalizations; however, in Costa Rica, the information on the budget impact of the efficacy of AIR in patients with mild asthma is unkn own. HTA31 Cost-Utility Analysis of Pneumococcal Vaccines for Older Adults Available in Costa Rica
In Costa Rica, 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) and 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23) are available to prevent invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) such as meningitis, bacteremia, as well as community-acquired pneumococcal pneumonia (CAP) caused by serotypes contained in these vaccines. This analysis estimated the clinical and economic values of PCV13 and PPSV23 from the public healthcare perspective. (Source: Value in Health)

EE419 Budget Impact Analysis of Faricimab for treating patients with Diabetes Macular Edema or Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration in Costa Rica
Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) and neovascular Age-related Macular Degeneration (nAMD) cause vision loss leading to loss of health-related quality of life. Faricimab is a bispecific antibody that binds and inhibits both VEGF-A and angiopoietin-2. The aim is to estimate the budget impact (BI) of using Faricimab in Costa Rica's healthcare system. EE306 The Burden of Disease of Diabetic Macular Edema and Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration in Costa Rica
Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) and neovascular Age-related Macular Degeneration (nAMD) cause vision loss leading to morbidity and loss of health-related quality of life. Treatment in the country is based on laser and anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). Our objective is to estimate the economic burden generated by these diseases in Costa Rica to have information that allows decision-makers to estimate the magnitude of this problem in the country.
