A study on the usefulness of eppikajutsuto for cellulitis
ConclusionEPTJ may be a safe and effective treatment option for cellulitis. Although antimicrobial agents were used in 48.5% of cases, further studies are needed to determine whether the concomitant use of antimicrobial agents is essential or the concomitant use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is useful. Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1347: Study of the Structure and Bioactivity of Polysaccharides from Different Parts of Stemona tuberosa Lour
gliang Yao Wen-Hua Chen The polysaccharides from Stemona tuberosa Lour, a kind of plant used in Chinese herbal medicine, have various pharmacological activities, such as anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. However, the effects of the extraction methods and the activity of polysaccharides from different parts are still unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of different extraction methods on the yields, chemical compositions, and bioactivity of polysaccharides extracted from different parts of Stemona tuberosa Lour. Six polysaccharides were extracted from the leaves, roots, and stems of...

Effects of acupuncture on SATB1/p21 signaling pathway and SASPs in MPTP-induced Parkinson disease model mice
ConclusionAcupuncture can improve motor function and increase the number of TH-positive neurons in the SN of PD model mice. Its neuroprotective effect may relate to the regulation of the SATB1/p21 signaling pathway and the inhibition of cellular senescence-related biomarker expression in the SN. Goreisan ‐induced modulation of fecal bile acid composition and gut microbiota in mice
ConclusionsGRS was suggested to promote the formation of fecal secondary bile acids in mice, possibly through the enhancement of bacterial 7 β-dehydroxylation and 6β-epimerization activities. These changes may be involved in the antidiarrhetic action of GRS. Concurrent evaluation of fecal bile acids and gut microbiota presents a promising approach for elucidating the novel mechanisms underlying the effects of kampo formulations, partic ularly in modulating the microbial metabolism of intestinal bile acids. Review of the standards of proof (of safety) for FDA regulated consumer products and how the generally recognized as safe criteria could be applied to cosmetics
Regul Toxicol Pharmacol. 2024 Mar 15:105603. doi: 10.1016/j.yrtph.2024.105603. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act of 2022 (MoCRA) amends the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FDCA), elevating the standard of proof of safety (better known as a "safety standard") for cosmetics to the standard of a "reasonable certainty … [of] … safe."a standard equal to that of food ingredients. The standards of the proof of safety differ for various classes of FDA-regulated product categories (e.g., cosmetics, dietary supplements, food ingredients and food itself). This manuscript describes the variou...

Occurrence and health risk of pesticide residues in Chinese herbal medicines from Shandong Province, China
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Mar 16. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-32693-4. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPesticide residue was one of the stress factors affecting quality and safety of Chinese herbal medicines (CHMs). The present study was designed to investigate the occurrence and dietary exposure of 70 pesticide residues in 307 samples of CHMs, including 104 American ginseng, 100 Ganoderma lucidum (G. lucidum), and 103 Dendrobium officinale (D. officinale) in Shandong Province, China. The study revealed that a total of 29 pesticides were detected in the majority (92.5%) of samples, and the pesticide residues of 85 (27.7%)...

A national cross-sectional survey of the attitudes, skills and use of evidence-based practice amongst Canadian osteopaths
Health care professions face increasing pressure to integrate research evidence into practice to improve patient outcomes. For many professions, the uptake of evidence-based practice (EBP) remains poorly understood, including for osteopaths in Canada. The primary aim of this study was to determine the perceptions, training, self perceived skills, use, barriers, and facilitators of EBP amongst Canadian osteopaths. Role of Phytoactive-based Nanoformulation for the Treatment of Arthritis
Curr Pharm Biotechnol. 2024 Mar 14. doi: 10.2174/0113892010276916240308082328. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTJoints and arthritic conditions are among the most dangerous illnesses that humans have ever encountered and it is even more worrying that there is no recognized treatment for arthritis. The researchers looked for safer alternatives, such as herbal medicines, because the traditional treatments used to treat severe joint inflammatory issues have several negative side effects. A ligand-coated nanomedicine can bind to receptors that are overexpressed by cells in chronically inflammatory tissues, increasing its efficacy...

A novel strategy for the quality control of carbonized Typhae pollen using colorimeter, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, and efficacy evaluation coupled with multivariate statistical analysis
In this study, a novel quality control strategy was proposed, aiming to establish a multivariate specification for the processing step by exploring the correlation between colors, chemical components, and hemostatic effects of the carbonized Typhae pollen (CTP) using multivariate statistical analysis. The CTP samples were stir-fried at different durations. Afterward, the colorimeter and LC-MS techniques were applied to characterize the CTP samples, followed by the determination of bleeding time and clotting time using mice to evaluate their hemostatic effect. Then, principal component analysis, hierarchical cluster analysi...
