Catchment area, fate, and environmental risks investigation of micropollutants in Danish wastewater
This study aimed to investigate the spatial distribution of micropollutants in wastewater related to catchment area, and their environmental risks and fate. About 24-h flow proportional effluent (n = 26) wastewater samples were collected from eight WWTPs across Denmark. From five of these WWTPs corresponding influent samples (n = 20) were collected. Samples were enriched by multi-layer solid phase and analysed by liquid chromatography-high-resolution mass spectrometry and comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography with high-resolution mass spectrometry detection. We detected and quantified 79 micropollutants from a l...

The Efficacy of Citalopram or Escitalopram in Patients with Asthma and Major Depressive Disorder
Background: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is common in people with asthma. Yet, few studies have examined depression treatment in those with asthma. Objective: To explore the relationship between antidepressant use, depressive symptoms, and asthma control, pooled data from three randomized trials of either citalopram or escitalopram were assessed. Methods: Linear fixed effects and binary logistic regression analyses were conducted with between-subject covariates including treatment group, (original) study, and demographics. Protective effects of SSRI, Citalopram in mutant APP and mutant Tau expressed dorsal raphe neurons in Alzheimer's disease
Biochim Biophys Acta Mol Basis Dis. 2023 Nov 4:166942. doi: 10.1016/j.bbadis.2023.166942. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDepression is among the most common neuropsychiatric comorbidities in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other Tauopathies. Apart from its anti-depressive and anxiolytic effects, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) treatment also offers intracellular modifications that may help to improve neurogenesis, reduce amyloid burden & Tau pathologies, and neuroinflammation in AD. Despite its multifaceted impact in the brain, the exact physiological and molecular mechanism by which SSRIs such as Citalopram ...

Cytotoxicity and reversal effect of sertraline, fluoxetine, and citalopram on MRP1- and MRP7-mediated MDR
In this study, we aimed to investigate whether three drugs (sertraline, fluoxetine, and citalopram) from the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) family, commonly used as antidepressants, could be repurposed as inhibitors of MRP1 and MRP7 transporters and reverse MDR in cancer cells. Using a combination of in silico predictions and in vitro validations, we analyzed the interaction of MRP1 and MRP7 with the drugs and evaluated their ability to hinder cell resistance. We used computational tools to identify and analyze the binding site of these three molecules and determine their binding energy. Subsequently, we con...

Study Compares Clinical Outcomes of Older Adults Prescribed 10 Common Antidepressants
Older adults with depression may be least likely to discontinue or switch treatment when prescribed sertraline for the first time compared with other antidepressants, suggests areport inThe American Journal of Psychiatry. The study compared one-year outcomes in 93,000 Danish residents with depression who for the first time filled a prescription for one of 10 antidepressants. The research was funded in part by the Health Research Foundation of the Central Denmark Region.“Although clinical trials are considered the gold standard in drug effectiveness research, their experimental conditions often do not represent complex, r...

Real-World Evidence on Clinical Outcomes of Commonly Used Antidepressants in Older Adults Initiating Antidepressants for Depression: A Nationwide Cohort Study in Denmark
CONCLUSIONS: This real-world evidence suggests that clinical outcomes may vary among initiators of commonly used antidepressants in older adults, which may inform benefit-risk evaluation at treatment initiation, and highlights the importance of careful selection of antidepressant treatment.PMID:37849303 | DOI:10.1176/appi.ajp.20230356 (Source: The American Journal of Psychiatry)
