Preventing Medication Errors: Lessons From a Patient
A Nurse Aide, an Emergency Room Clerk, and a Patient I have great appreciation for doctors and nurses, hospitals, and patients. In high school I worked as a nurse aide in a convalescent home. I fed, dressed, and showered elderly patients, many of them immobile. I shaved gentlemen's facial stubble and polished ladies' fingernails. In college and in graduate school, I worked as an emergency room clerk. I witnessed a lot, including amazing doctors and nurses caring for patients and saving lives. I have also been a patient. First, when I had an appendectomy at age eight and then when I gave natural childbirth twice. All were...

Digital Attraction
From its formation in 1863, Bayer AG has been a hugely influential and innovative chemical, scientific and pharma company, developing aspirin in 1899 and popularizing the pill, as a form of contraception, in the 1960s. More recently, it introduced the top-selling, second-generation quinolone antibiotic, Cipro, plus anti-cancer drug Nexavar. But to ensure its future is as bright as its past – and keep it at the forefront of pharma – Bayer is wholeheartedly embracing cutting-edge technology and is going digital. However, when your organization was founded over 150 years ago and is a huge multinational with over 120,000 e...

It will allow stakeholders to implement plans for emergency dispensing of eligible ciprofloxacin products without individual prescriptions in the future if they reasonably believe there is a need to do so because of their constituents...

Antibiotics Side Effects on the Mitochondria
Science is just beginning to understand how important your mitochondria are to warding off the diseases of aging. And, as usual, mainstream medicine is lagging way behind. Along with your telomeres, the cellular time keepers at the ends of your chromosomes, your mitochondria are another key component of the anti-aging equation. You see, these tiny organelles in your cells are the power plants that turn fuel into energy for your body. Healthy mitochondria keep you young and energetic.  Research shows that damaged mitochondria can lead to: Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder; Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’...

At this point in the campaign race, we know the candidates' beliefs on issues like war, immigration and Wall Street. But what about food? If I have noted "No public comment available" but you know of a public comment, please add it to the comments below with a link to the original source. Common Antibiotics May Cause Delirium, Confusion And Hallucinations
I have long had severe reservations about quinolone antibiotics, like Levaquin and Cipro. I have had these concerns since I conducted clinical trials to test new antibiotics (including a variety of quinolones) before they went to market. Now I have further concerns about them because of their overuse as an alternative to busy physicians trying to puzzle out what’s wrong with the patient, and because practice “guidelines” promote their overuse.
