Validation of elevated levels of interleukin-8 in the cerebrospinal fluid, and discovery of new biomarkers in patients with GBS and CIDP using a proximity extension assay
ConclusionIL8 in CSF is validated as a diagnostic biomarker in GBS and CIDP, and a prognostic biomarker in GBS. Multiplex PEA hereby identifies several potential biomarkers in GBS and CIDP. (Source: Frontiers in Immunology)

Sensory neuropathy in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: a systematic review
AbstractAmyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease characterized by the degeneration of both upper and lower motoneurons, leading to motor and non-motor symptoms. Recent evidence suggests that ALS is indeed a multisystem disorder, associated with cognitive impairment, dysautonomia, pain and fatigue, excess of secretions, and sensory symptoms. To evaluate whether sensory neuropathy could broaden its spectrum, we systematically reviewed its presence and characteristics in ALS, extracting data on epidemiological, clinical, neurophysiological, neuropathological, and genetic features. Sensory neuro...

Extensive arm skin necrosis following administration of unfractionated heparin
Dena Firouzabadi, Peyman Petramfar, Laleh MahmoudiIndian Journal of Pharmacology 2023 55(5):332-334 Unfractionated heparin (UH), a commonly used anticoagulant, can rarely cause skin necrosis following heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT). A 38-year-old female, a case of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) admitted to the neurology ward, developed extensive skin necrosis following a change in UH dose at the exact site of UH injection. A sudden fall in the platelet count was observed within 48 h of increasing the UH dose. Necrosis of the outer layer of the skin along with clot formation and inflammati...

CSF CXCL13 is elevated in patients with CIDP and may reflect higher disease activity
To evaluate B-cell involvement in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP), 11 patients with CIDP, 8 patients with Guillain –Barré syndrome and 13 patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) were studied. CSF cytokine and chemokine (IL-10, IL-15, TNF-α, TGF-β1, GM-CSF, BAFF, CXCL10, and CXCL13) levels were measured by ELISA. The CSF CXCL13 level was significantly higher in patients with CIDP than i n those with iNPH. The CSF CXCL13 level was significantly higher in CIDP patients with higher annualized relapse rates and higher modified Rankin scale scores. (Source: Journal of Neuroimmunology)

Symptom and Treatment Satisfaction in Members of the US and Canadian GBS/CIDP Foundations with a Diagnosis of Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy
ConclusionsA high proportion of members of the US and Canadian GBS/CIDP Foundations reporting a diagnosis of CIDP were unsatisfied with current symptoms, despite a high level of overall satisfaction with treatments. There is an unmet need for improving long-term outcomes in people with a diagnosis of CIDP, and for studying patient-centered long-term treatment goals. (Source: Advances in Therapy)

In persons with CIDP, auto-HSCT can be conducted fully on an outpatient basis and induces significant clinical responses: A prospective study in a single center
CONCLUSION: aHSCT conducted fully in an outpatient basis, employing the conditioning regimen of the "Mexican method" appears to be a feasible therapeutic option for persons with CIDP. Additional studies are needed to confirm these observations.PMID:37866669 | DOI:10.1016/j.trim.2023.101944 (Source: Transplant Immunology)
