Disturbed flow in the juxta-anastomotic area of an arteriovenous fistula correlates with endothelial loss, acute thrombus formation and neointimal hyperplasia
CONCLUSION: Disturbed flow through the JAA correlates with rapid endothelial cell loss, thrombus formation, and JANIH; late endothelialization of the JAA channel correlates with late AVF patency. Early thrombus formation in the JAA may influence later development of JANIH.PMID:38578237 | DOI:10.1152/ajpheart.00054.2024 (Source: American Journal of Physiology. Heart and Circulatory Physiology)

Clinically Undiagnosed Diseases in Autopsies: Frequency and Risk Factors
CONCLUSIONS.—: Autopsy is a useful investigation for the detection of clinically undiagnosed entities. In our cohort, cardiac amyloidosis showed the highest number of underlying risk factors, but was clinically underdiagnosed. Our findings underline the necessity of improved clinical detection of cardiac amyloidosis, especially in light of emerging therapeutic options. Moreover, we characterize the most common entities prone to clinical underdiagnosis.PMID:38576236 | DOI:10.5858/arpa.2023-0429-OA (Source: Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine)

Trends in the prevalence of multiple chronic conditions among US adults with hypertension from 1999-2000 through 2017-2020
CONCLUSION: In 2017-2020, more than half of US adults with hypertension had ≥3 additional chronic conditions, a substantial increase from 20 years ago.PMID:38576398 | DOI:10.1093/ajh/hpae040 (Source: American Journal of Hypertension)

Tolvaptan therapy for edema in patients with chronic kidney disease
CONCLUSION: As long as a rational treatment regimen is followed, tolvaptan is a safe and effective diuretic for treating edema in CKD, even in the late stages of CKD without reducing residual renal function in the patients.PMID:38577748 | DOI:10.5414/CN111365 (Source: Clinical Nephrology)

PD-1 and LAG-3 positive T cells are related with the prognosis of patients with chronic kidney disease
CONCLUSION: In summary, the present research showed that the frequencies of LAG-3+ and PD-1+ T cells were remarkably enhanced in CKD patients. These findings offer novel insights and potential therapeutic targets for the management of CKD.PMID:38574959 | DOI:10.1016/j.yexcr.2024.114027 (Source: Experimental Cell Research)
